Tennessee Man Wins Hemingway Look-Alike Contest in Key West
Key West is fun year-round. But it's particulary fun when you're in town for the coastal enclave's annual Hemingway Days,a celebration of Ernest Hemingway's life and legacy.
Among the highlights of the multi-day event — which this year was held July 16th through 21st — is the Hemingway Look-Alike Contest, hosted at Sloppy Joe's Bar, which Hemingway frequented during his time residing in Key West. Sunday, July 21st, would have market the author's 120th birthday.
During Saturday evening's contest, Joe Maxey, a retired banker from Cedar Hill, Tennessee was crowned the winner of the doppelgänger fiesta. The 68-year-old champ isn't as avid a fisher as The Old Man and the Sea author but he does share some commonalities with Hemingway, noting to the Associated Press, "I love mojitos, and I love women, too," per KUTV. Maxey beat out 141 other participants to win the competition.
