Where we stayed…

Wyndham Residences, Golf Del Sur

A 10-minute drive from Tenerife South Airport, this relaxed resort is a short scenic walk along the dramatic coastline to the nearby beach - Playa de San Blas - plus loads of bars and restaurants. The resort itself is great for groups and families and has an all day restaurant, two pools, table tennis, pool tables, a children’s playground and an on-site entertainment team with a calendar of daily activities for all ages.

HOVIMA La Pinta Beachfront Hotel

Down the road in Adeje HOVIMA La Pinta Beachfront Family Hotel is only a two minute walk from the crystal blue waters of Playa La Pinta Puerto Colón featuring a boardwalk filled with bars, restaurants and shopping options. The hotel has two restaurants with sea views, two swimming pools, a bar, a poolside snack bar and a TV room. If you do stay here or end up at the southern end of Tenerife island, head to one of the area’s two massive water parks - Aqualand and Siam Park (more on that later).

Rates at the HOVIMA La Pinta Beachfront Hotel start at £180 for a studio apartment with a private kitchen and a mountain view.

What we did…

Beach hopping

On the island of eternal spring, the beaches are a must visit. In south Tenerife, Playa La Pinta is a quick win with easy parking and lots of shopping, dining and views of the harbour. Further up the coast, Abama beach is more work to get to but has a big pay off. The beach is nestled into a tree topped cliff and accessible via a long set of steps. There aren’t any restaurants or bars on site but the views will make up for the trek.

Bigger beaches will have sunbeds for hire (starting at 6 euros), and come with wide promenades, bars, supermarkets and watersports on offer. They can be busier and more crowded year round.

Water Parks

Tenerife is home to two big water parks relatively close to each other - Aqualand and Siam Park. Both priced roughly the same, both have a wide range of attractions to easily spend a whole day riding. Look out for group price discounts and combined tickets to other entertainment parks in Tenerife.

Entry to the parks are about £32 per adult ticket per day not including parking, food or drink.

Where we ate and drank…

El Tiburon

While there is no shortage of delicious seafood restaurants in Tenerife, this was the one we loved so much we went back a second time. It had a range of local favourites, a catch of the day special and a long pasta menu - ace.

The Thirsty Turtle

This restaurant serves up tasty breakfast, lunch and dinner in a cute al fresco spot near Playa De La Pinta. Their breakfasts are far from the usual options like acai bowls, devilled eggs and a breakfast burger.

How we got around…

We booked and rented a car from the airport so we could explore the southern coast at our own pace. Depending on how flexible your plans are, taxis are widely available all over the island and are pretty affordable.
