Which Scene From A Movie Or Show Changed Your Definition Of Romance And Relationships?

One thing I love the most about watching a movie or TV show is the ~romance~. Yeah, sure, the main plot and overall theme is important (I guess), but when two beloved characters finally get together after moments and moments of palpable tension and yearning??? Pure magic.

"Rosie Dunne, can I take you to the dance?"

Not even exaggerating — when I first watched Love, Rosie as an impressionable teenage girl, the expectation that the right person, no matter what, would find me when the time was right became rooted in my brain. (Still waiting, BTW.)

And NGL, a lot of the concepts and ideas I learned about romance came from what I saw in TV shows and movies. Sure, there are a lot of cringey tropes and "unrealistic" standards, but when you grow up not really having a clear visual of what healthy romantic love is supposed to look like, you make do with what ya got!

That said, if you've ever watched a scene from a movie or TV show that redefined the way you think about romantic expectations or relationships in general, I wanna know!

Maybe it was when you watched The Notebook, and Noah wrote to Allie every single day because he couldn't fathom not being able to communicate with her.

"You wrote me?"

Imagine having someone who fights for you every single day, no matter the circumstances!! Even though Noah low-key manipulated Allie into going on a date with him, he never let go of their ~love~.

New Line Cinema

Maybe your romantic expectations changed while you were watching Crazy Rich Asians, when Nick followed Rachel onto her flight and proposed (again), despite his mother's initial disapproval.

"Wherever you are in the world, that's where I belong."

This movie taught me that you shouldn't have to shrink yourself down or try to change who you are for the person you love, or their family. That, and it made me want to visit Singapore super bad.

Warner Bros.

Or maybe it was during Heartstopper, when Nick and Charlie screamed to the world that they were together, without any apologies or embarrassment attached.

"We're boyfriends!"

Because you shouldn't be with someone who tries to keep you a secret!

Netflix

Heck, it can even be from a non-romantic movie, like The Hunger Games. When Peeta ran to Katniss's room knowing she was having nightmares and stayed the night with her? My heart.

"Peeta, will you stay with me?"

Loving someone is about showing up for them, even when it's difficult.

In fact, it could even be a scene where the couple was so toxic for each other, you knew that's what you didn't want — like Blair and Chuck from Gossip Girl. Like, for example, when Chuck slept with Jenny, knowing Blair didn't like her, to get revenge.

"Hey, some people don't get the offer."

I used to stan Blair and Chuck as a couple, but now, I realize they were not healthy at all. Who could forget when Chuck traded Blair for a hotel??

No matter what, if there was a scene from a movie or TV show that just resonated with you and made you re-evaluate your expectations for romance and relationships, I wanna know! And don't be afraid to spill all the deets — I'm genuinely curious to know which scene it was, why, and how it made you feel.
