Tekken: Bloodline, the Netflix animated series based on hit fighting game by Bandai Namco, has been revealed to premiere on 18 August after officially releasing its newest trailer on Tuesday (19 July).

The series will focus on Jin Kazama, one of the Tekken series' protagonists and most iconic characters, as well as past and quest to the ultimate global battle stage: The King of Iron Fist Tournament.

In the trailer, we saw how Jin was trained by his mother, Jun, with the Kazama family’s self-defence fighting style. Jin then witnessed his mother’s demise after she was attacked by Ogre.

Seeking revenge, Kazama turns to his grandfather, Heihachi Mishima, who trains him “Mishima style” so that his “body becomes a weapon itself".

Fans are treated to a series of accurately-depicted, classic Jin and Heihachi combos, as well as other famous moves from other characters like Paul and King.

Jin's quest for revenge will lead him to The King of Iron Fist Tournament, where we see a preview of some of the most popular fighters in the franchise like Xiaoyu, King, Nina Williams, Paul, Leroy, Ogre, and more.

Jin seemed especially cautious of Nina Williams, who seemed to be recruiting Paul and other characters.

Jin was also warned by someone not to advertise that he’s related to Kazuya Mishima, one of the main antagonists of the Tekken franchise.

Nina described Kazuya as “evil in its purest form", saying that the Mishima bloodline is tainted and that getting involved with them is “the last thing you wanna do.”

SPOILER ALERT! For those who’ve followed the franchise, it has been said Kazuya was Jun’s love interest and Jin’s father. In Tekken 2, Kazuya attempted to kill Heihachi as a form of revenge and then took over the family fortune afterwards.

Destroying the Mishima Bloodline eventually became Jin’s main motivation since he was introduced as a playable character in Tekken 3 (1996). The series seems to roughly adapt Tekken 3’s storyline.

Tekken first came out on the PlayStation and the Arcade board Namco System 11 in 1994 and has had seven instalments since then, becoming available on different platforms like Xbox 360, Wii U, Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows.

The game quickly gained a huge following, especially in Southeast Asia, where fighting games were the most popular games in Arcades and entertainment centres. In 2019, Tekken 7 was lined up as an esports event in the Southeast Asian Games.

Netflix first announced the anime adaptation of Bandai Namco’s popular fighting game last March, showing a quick teaser of Jin’s life right before he went to train under Heihachi Mishima’s wing.

With Tekken 8 perhaps probably around the corner, the game might find new fans and players after the animated series is released.
