'Tekken 8' Sells Over 2M Copies Within a Month of Release

Gamers are flocking to buy Tekken 8, the fast-paced fighting game from Bandai Namco and Arika. The title launched on January 26 as the successor to Tekken 7. After being teased back in August 2022, the immersive, realistic game was developed using Unreal Engine 5.

According to Bandai Namco, Tekken 8 sold one million copies on the day of its release. Another million copies were sold throughout the ensuing month.

The publisher said that the sales mean that Tekken 8 already “outpaces” Tekken 7, the latter of which has sold nearly 12 million copies globally and is the most popular game in the franchise to date.

It’s a promising outlook for the future of Tekken 8, which Bandai Namco says it plans to grow “through various content updates, esports events, music and licensing announcements.” It’s currently planning to bring the Tekken Shop to the game, allowing for in-game character customization, among other updates.
