Teenagers Do It Best: Kiernan Shipka, Maisie Williams & Ariel Winter Win the Emmys Red Carpet

The transition from child star to polished adult should not be smooth. See: Miley Cyrus, Lindsay Lohan, Britney Spears, everyone ever. And yet, teenagers ruled the red carpet at the 67th Emmy Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday night.

Fifteen-year-old Kiernan Shipka, the precocious star of Mad Men, has always had a thing for fashion, even designing some of her own clothes. But that’s meant sweet Oscar de la Renta dresses and innocent Delpozo. On Sunday night, however, on the red carpet of the 67th Emmy Awards in Los Angeles, Shipka looked sleek. She pulled off one of the hardest styling tricks—a dress over pants—layering an embellished off the shoulder tunic by Dior Couture (from Raf Simons’s Fall 2012 collection) over skinny black pants with classic pointed pumps. With laid back hair and excellent posture, she looked more confident and comfortable than most women three times her age.

Maisie Williams, meanwhile, will surely land on every best dressed list thanks to the sleeveless pink column dress she wore so well. The 18-year-old Game of Thrones star paired the quilted dress with a youthful penguin clutch she called her good luck charm and fluffy white sandals.

And Ariel Winter, making her first major awards show appearance post-breast reduction surgery, looked very grown up for her 17 years in a red dress by Ramona Keveza. The strapless column gown features a nipped waist and sleek skirt.
