Teenagers Crash Hard After Sledding Illegally At Ski Resort

I'm sure I'm not alone in fantasizing about sledding at my local hill. But, much to no one's surprise, ski slopes, and sleds don't mix very well.

This video, shot on the slopes of Vail Ski Resort, Colorado, shows exactly why sledding is banned at ski resorts.

Ouch. Luckily, none of the teenage sledders in this video were seriously hurt.

However, this video was filmed the day after a tragic accident at Copper Mountain, Colorado, that involved the death of two teens who tried sledding through an icy halfpipe, demonstrating the potential lethality of ski slope sledding.

In the caption to this video, the Vail, Colorado, Instagram page wrote:

"Please leave your sleds at home. These mountains are not meant for sleds. The mountains are too steep, and sleds do not have brakes. There are plenty of other activities here to enjoy on your vacation."

At 25, I'm closer in age to the teens in this video than a middle-aged, more responsible version of myself. I "borrowed" lunch trays at my local hill to use as sleds only a few short years ago. Therefore, a part of me gets it. Who doesn't want to go really, really fast?

But, with my prefrontal cortex coming fully online, I also understand that actions have potentially dire consequences. So, I'm going to put my fun police pants on and say this: There are plenty of relatively safe ways to get rowdy and have fun at ski resorts. Ditch the sled. Stick to skis.
