Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Are Coming to Street Fighter

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are in a bit of a renaissance right now. The recent TMNT Mutant Mayhem film has been getting rave reviews (with a sequel TV series on the way too), the best TMNT comic is getting a sequel, and there are even pizza-scented Xbox controllers in their honor — the funky green guys are riding high. Naturally, video games were next, and the Turtles are making an appearance in the strangest possible way.

At EVO, the biggest fighting game tournament of the year, Capcom made two key announcements about Street Fighter 6. The first was the announcement of a new character, AKI, who’s a mysterious, poison-wielding weirdo with one hell of a haircut. AKI will be coming at some point in the Fall, but SF6 players won’t have to wait that long for new content.

That’s because the second key announcement was the addition of TMNT content coming to the game, and Capcom is going all out with this crossover promotion. There are costumes for each of the Turtles – Mikey, Donnie, Raph, and Leo – that can be equipped on your World Tour and Battle Hub custom avatar. There are also a bunch of Turtles emotes, new Titles, stamps to send in the chat, in-game wallpapers, and more.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles content will be available in Street Fighter 6 tomorrow, on August 8, 2023.

This actually isn’t the first time Ninja Turtles have shown up in a fighting game not of their own. The four characters were added as DLC fighters for 2017’s Injustice 2, alongside other guest fighters like Hellboy and both Raiden and Sub-Zero from Mortal Kombat. They were also in Ubisoft’s free-to-play fighting game Brawlhalla, and Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl, among many other non-fighting games.

The Turtles have also had a host of their own games, some of which were side-scrolling beat-em-ups, others of which were action adventure games, and yes, of course, some were fighting games. There’s even an upcoming game based on TMNT: The Last Ronin, that’s said to be at least somewhat inspired by God of War — though it doesn’t have a release date or really any details.
