When you have PCOS, most of the time, you never know when your period is going to strike. The menstruation gods don’t care if it’s your wedding day, or on spring break—in fact, in my experience that’s when you’re most likely to have a sudden visit from “Aunt Flow.” Teen Mom star Kailyn Lowry has always been vocal about her PCOS diagnosis, and when her period decided to come unexpectedly while on vacation with her four eldest sons, she decided to speak out on her TikTok about why it’s so important to educate young boys about periods.

Lowry was on vacation with Creed, who is three-and-a-half, Lux, who is six-and-a-half, Lincoln, who is 10, and her 14-year-old son Isaac. In the video, she said that while she normally wouldn’t freak out about randomly starting her period on vacation, she had the four boys with her by herself. “So thankfully, they know what to look for if I were to have a little Aunt Flow emergency. Isaac or Lincoln could go to the store for me and grab something.”

She said since she is so irregular she was prepared, but since she’s a heavy bleeder because of the PCOS, there could potentially be an emergency situation with leaking, and her kids would know what to look for and how to help.

“I would have no shame asking my oldest son to check me, because sometimes, you just don’t know if you leak through things,” she said.

Her youngest children, infant twins Verse and Valley, and her 15-month-old son Rio were at home with her boyfriend, Elijah Scott.

When asked on TikTok why she didn’t bring the little ones on the trip, she explained, “I have a partner who was willing and able to stay home with the babies and make sure that all of their needs are taken care of and I’m able to kind of spend one-on-one time with my older kids, who are able to do a lot more.”

Sounds like Scott is a very good partner to have when it comes to coparenting six children, and I would guess he also wouldn’t mind running to the dreaded “feminine hygiene” aisle for an unexpected Aunt Flow visit, or checking to make sure she didn’t leak.
