The car Trinity Brandasia Harrison was riding in was hit “head on” by another vehicle, local paper The State reports. She died at the hospital early Sunday morning. The 27-year-old driver of the other vehicle was reportedly taken to the hospital and charged with a felony DUI resulting in death.

“We are absolutely heartbroken to learn of last night’s wreck that took the life of Trinity Harrison following her senior prom,” the Greenwood District 50 school board wrote on Facebook. “Many of us knew [her] family well and we cannot imagine the grief and the anguish they are experiencing. Drinking and driving is, by far, one of the most selfish acts because it is the innocent ones who suffer at the hands of your recklessness. Please do not drink and drive, folks.”

Harrison’s grandfather wrote a tribute to his granddaughter on Facebook, saying her “heavenly journey has begun.”

“My dearest granddaughter in your short time here, (18yrs) you have brought so much love, beauty, talent, fun and elegance into our lives and hearts,” Frank Harrison wrote.

Ministers, counselors and a highway patrol trooper will be at Ware Shoals High School this week to speak with students, superintendent Fay Sprouse told the Index-Journal.

“A hole is in the fabric of our tightly knit community, and we will hold hands as we celebrate her life while dealing with our loss,” Sprouse told the local paper.
