This teen dabbing in front of a very confused Paul Ryan is the hero we need right now

Sometimes the risks are worth the reward. That must have been the mentality of 17-year-old Cal Marshall when he was presented with a singular opportunity. His father, Kansas Representative Roger Marshall, was having the whole family pose for a photo with House Speaker Paul Ryan, to celebrate the swearing in of the new Congress. It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and the high school student was not going to waste it by smiling politely and posing alongside the rest of his family. So Cal Marshall did the only thing he could do under the bright lights: he dabbed in front of Paul Ryan.

Paul Ryan had no idea what was going on, indicating that pop culture ranks among the House Speaker’s blind spots. With the teen dabbing enthusiastically, the Republican politician asked if he was all right, or perhaps in need of a good sneezing session. Cal assured Ryan he was fine and finally posed nicely for the photo.

Apparently at some point Paul Ryan asked someone on his team what exactly had gone down during the photo op, and why a teen dabbing at the event was something he had to deal with. It seems that while he grasped the word “dabbing,” the true meaning of the act continues to elude him.

Unfortunately for the mischievous Cal, his parents were not so naive to his behavior. Nor were they inclined to look kindly on the teen dabbing during what for them was an important moment: Cal received swift judgment from Representative Marshall and his wide.

Cal may be suffering under the yoke of parental disapproval for his acts, but the rest of us see him for what he is: a spirited teen dabbing his way into our hearts and internet fame.
