Author Elisa Beth Magagna’s 15-year-old son said the hardest year of his life was the year he found out she had terminal cancer — stage 4 melanoma. While dealing with all the pain and rollercoaster of emotions when it comes to finding out someone you love deeply has this kind of diagnosis, he continued to get good grades and help out the best he can, according to Magagna on her TikTok.  Trey is obviously a very special 15-year-old, and she said while they all collectively as a family continued to try to find the good, that Trey got “extra disheartened” when his Doberman died. She said she used to sleep in his room every night.

“After that, Trey made up his mind to not let this get him down,” Magagna captioned the video. “For months he saved up as much as he could and decided to ask if Mermazing Maine Coons would take payments so he could buy a kitten.”

These kittens are typically $3,500, and Trey had only been able to save $300. Sitting with his family in the breeder’s home, he asked if they would be able to work with him to make a payment plan, knowing they typically don’t do something like that.

Trey said he would get a job and make sure he could pay it off within a year. “I’d definitely train the cat really well. And I never had my very own animal—not just a family pet,” he said. “If we raised it I would try to make it become the best version of itself and the happiest version it could be,” Trey explained.

Magagna said Trey wanted this with everything in him.

The breeder told him she wasn’t sure if they had any kittens that would fit what he was looking for at the moment, but she would run up and get one of the kittens and they’ll see what happens.

What happened was they were going to give him the cat for free. No payments. No special stipulations except he had to keep good grades and take extra, extra great care of him.

Everyone—including Trey—were in tears. He sobbed and said thank you to the breeder and gave her a huge hug. She told him, “Oh I am so glad I could bring you some happiness, honey.”

And now if you look at Magagna’s TikTok the kitten has become a wonderful addition to the family, a much-needed light and source of joy that a family going through so much needs during this time.

“My battle against cancer has been so hard on my family, but I’m so grateful for the angels we’ve met along the way,” Magagna concluded.

Congratulations, Trey and happy forever to “Borah.”
