It's back to the pitch for a certain mustachioed soccer coach. Believe that Ted Lasso will officially return to Apple TV+ for its third season.

Saturday Night Live alum Jason Sudeikis stars as the titular American soccer coach in the hit feel-good comedy series about the fictional British Richmond Football Club. Throughout its run, Ted Lasso has scored big with 11 Emmy wins, not to mention its record-setting 40 Emmy nods that tally up to the most nominations for a comedy series, ever. That also includes taking home top honors for Best Comedy Series, Best Actor in a Comedy Series, Best Supporting Actress and Actor in a Comedy Series, plus much more.

Ted Lasso fans can't fathom their favorite show ending anytime soon, which begs the question: Will there be a Ted Lasso season 4? To answer all your burning queries, we rounded up all the details you need to know about Ted Lasso season 3 and the future of the show:

Ted Lasso season 3 will be released on March 15, 2023. After teasing that the show would return sometime in the spring, Apple TV+ revealed the date with a minute-long teaser paying tribute to the beloved slogan, "Believe."

Shortly after, the streamer unveiled the official trailer for Ted Lasso season 3. Though the clip starts off on a somber note, set to the Rolling Stones' "You Can't Always Get What You Want," it picks up energy by the end, perhaps, encompassing the show's overall journey.

Ahead of Apple TV+ announcing the official release date, both fans and Ted Lasso cast members were itching to hear more news. But like Cristo Fernández told People, the anticipation will pay off.

"It's exciting, but I can honestly tell you it's going to be worth the wait," he spilled to the outlet. "The scripts are very, very good. It's going to be so good. That's what I can tell you."

How many Ted Lasso season 3 episodes?

Like season 2, Ted Lasso season 3 will have 12 episodes — compared to season 1's 10 episodes. Backstage at the 2021 Emmys, Jason revealed that the streamer asked for the extra episodes in advance. “They, being Apple, asked for 12 episodes — and this time, ahead of time,” he told Deadline. “So, we’ll be doing 12 episodes as of now.”

Who will be in the Ted Lasso season 3 cast?

In April, Deadline reported that Jodi Balfour will be joining the ranks as Jack, a charming venture capitalist. Thought to be benched after season 2, it's also confirmed that both Sarah Niles (Dr. Sharon Fieldstone), who joined last season's cast as the team psychologist, and James Lance (Trent Crimm), who played the dry-witted sports columnist, will factor heavily into the next dozen episodes.

As for the key players we can bet seeing on the roster:

  • Jason Sudeikis as Ted Lasso

  • Hannah Waddingham as Rebecca Welton

  • Brett Goldstein as Roy Kent

  • Jeremy Swift as Leslie Higgins

  • Brendan Hunt as Coach Beard

  • Toheeb Jimoh as Sam Obisanya

  • Cristo Fernández as Dani Rojas

  • Kola Bokinni as Isaac

  • Nick Mohammed as Coach Nathan "Nate" Shelley

  • Juno Temple as Keely Jones

  • Stephen Manas as Richard Montlaur

  • Annette Badland as Mae

Tensions reach a boiling point as Ted and Nate (Nick Mohammed) face off in season 3, pictured above. It's assumed that the two's teams go up against each other as they're pictured in the West Ham United arena. In a BBC interview, Nick admitted that he hoped his character finds his way back to Richmond despite his villain storyline. "The thing with Ted Lasso is the audience are possibly expecting a redemption arc for Nate, and I'd like to see one I think because that would be nice," he said.

When asked by Deadline to spill about his character, Toheeb Jimoh (Sam Obisanya) kept tight-lipped but drove home that each and every character will have different, "interesting" resolutions. “You’ll see what his relationship with Rebecca is like and what it turns into," he revealed. "It will be really interesting no matter what side of the fence you’re on, whether you’re a TedBecca fan or SamBecca fan."

What's more, producer and director Declan Lowney said, "Knowing those guys, there’s bound to be a bunch of surprises, things you didn’t see coming, some curveballs in there.” Meanwhile, co-producer Liza Katzer hinted at season 3 exploring the existing ensemble's backgrounds. “I think it’s just more of what everyone loves and what has worked and just going deeper into the characters ... into the backstories,” she told Deadline.

All of this info seems to tie into Apple TV+'s logline for season 3, which reads:

The newly-promoted AFC Richmond faces ridicule as media predictions widely peg them as last in the Premier League and Nate (Nick Mohammed), now hailed as the “wonder kid,” has gone to work for Rupert (Anthony Head) at West Ham United. In the wake of Nate’s contentious departure from Richmond, Roy Kent (Brett Goldstein) steps up as assistant coach, alongside Beard (Brendan Hunt). Meanwhile, while Ted (Jason Sudeikis) deals with pressures at work, he continues to wrestle with his own personal issues back home, Rebecca (Hannah Waddingham) is focused on defeating Rupert and Keeley (Juno Temple) navigates being the boss of her own PR agency. Things seem to be falling apart both on and off the pitch, but Team Lasso is set to give it their best shot anyway.

Is season 3 the last season of Ted Lasso?

According to Deadline, Jason Sudeikis confirmed that Ted Lasso season 3 will be the last installment for the series.

“This is the end of this story that we wanted to tell, that we were hoping to tell, that we loved to tell," he told the outlet on March 6. "The fact that folks will want more and are curious beyond more than what they don’t even know yet — that being season 3 — it’s flattering.

He continued: "Maybe by May 31, once all 12 episodes of the season [have been released], they’re like, ‘Man, you know what, we get it, we’re fine. We don’t need anymore, we got it.’ But until that time comes, I will appreciate the curiosity beyond what we’ve come up with so far.”

Ted Lasso was only intended for a three-season arc, after all. In August 2022, co-creator and Coach Beard's real-life persona Brendan Hunt explained that season 3 will offer some sort of conclusion. "We are writing an ending for this three-chunk portion that we’ve always seen," he told The Hollywood Reporter.

Still, he mentioned that there's room to go forward. When asked whether he wrote the finale as open-ended, Brendan said, "I don’t think leaving an out is anything to worry about. It’s just a matter of whether or not we pick this up in some other way, and when."

He added: "But right now, we have to get through this whole mishegas, and then we’ll have a clearer head to see what the future holds."

Ted Lasso star Brett Goldstein echoed the same sentiment in various interviews, though he recently pivoted to say that he's keeping mum on season 3 details. He joined the Happy Sad Confused podcast and offered a cryptic message.

"We can't say anything, partly, because I'm not allowed to say anything, but also I get that everyone wants to know stuff but wouldn't it be better if you don't know anything?" he says around the 26:45 timestamp. "There's so few surprises [anymore] and if you’re into it, how wonderful to discover it again in a new way. I don’t want to spoil anything."

As for the rest of the cast, it looks like they'd be game for more — Ted Lasso actress Hannah Waddingham told Deadline that she's not ready to part from Rebecca just yet. “I would like to pause things because I’m not ready to say goodbye to her in three episodes," she said while filming season 3.

She revealed her hope that the lead star would continue the comedy after seeing its success. “I thought Jason would be pushed and pushed [to keep going],” the Game of Thrones star added. “I have an immense sadness because she’s brought quite a lot to my life. Jason has as well — an immeasurable amount. He has changed my life. He’s changed how I view people.”

All that said, that might still be a glimmer of hope for Ted Lasso fans. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the cast signed new deals ahead of production on season three, which wrote out options for future seasons.

Perhaps it's not game over, after all ...
