'Ted Lasso' Season 3 Might Not Be the End After All

Brew a pot of tea and gather the Diamond Dogs, folks: we have good news and bad news. Let's start with the good, shall we? Season Three of Ted Lasso just debuted on Apple TV+. All of your favorite characters—Roy Kent, Keeley Jones, Sam Obisanya, and more—are back, and ready to navigate life as the newest club in the Premier League. Now the bad. The next batch of episodes may mark the show's final season, according to Jason Sudeikis, but we've yet to fully process the shocking news. (More on this below) In the meantime, here's everything we know about Season Three of Ted Lasso.
You Said It Could Be the Last Season ofTed Lasso?
Unfortunately, yes. In a conversation with Deadline, Sudeikis said that Ted Lasso was pitched as a series with a three-season arc, and that's the story they're currently telling. Granted, they also admit that they never knew that they'd have a hit on their hands like Ted Lasso, and that tends to change things. "This is the end of this story that we wanted to tell, that we were hoping to tell, that we loved to tell," Sudeikis revealed. "The fact that folks will want more and are curious beyond more than what they don’t even know yet—that being Season 3—it’s flattering. Maybe by May 31, once all 12 episodes of the season [have been released], they’re like, ‘Man, you know what, we get it, we’re fine. We don’t need anymore, we got it.’ But until that time comes, I will appreciate the curiosity beyond what we’ve come up with so far.”
Would Ted Lasso Continue Without Ted Lasso?
I'm almost shocked to say this, but yes—it's being considered. Ted Lasso is in the peak of its popularity, despite Sudeikis announcing the end, Apple may not be ready to just give all that up. Luckily for fans, producer Lisa Katler is open to continuing Ted Lasso beyond the original plan. "We don’t know. We hope it goes on," she told Deadline last year. "Initially we were down for three, but it’s up in the air at the moment.” Even Sudeikis said that he was flattered by the idea, adding, "the fact that people want more, even if it’s a different avenue is lovely.”
At the premiere of Season Three this past week, the cast shared some of their ideas for potential spinoffs. “It’s come to that place where if you made a poster of everyone in Ted Lasso it would be fucking huge,” Brett Goldstein, who plays Roy Kent, told Variety. “You could do a spinoff of every character.” Goldstein also said he would love to keep playing Roy after Season Three wraps, joking (very tongue-in-cheek) that "The problem is that in Season Three, five of the main characters die, so my plan for Season Four is Ted comes back as a ghost, and it’s called ‘Ghost Ted.’ He’s haunting the corridors, but he’s just trying to inspire. Some people don’t believe in ghosts, and that’s the journey the team goes on is eventually believing in ghosts… Jason says he’s only thinking about it." Um... sounds like a great, totally real idea!
So, it's not a yes, but in the words of Dumb & Dumber, "So you're saying there's a chance."Season Three of Ted Lasso just kicked off on Apple TV+, where I'll be hoping that "Ghost Ted" becomes our new reality.
