Love it or hate it, ranch has a cult following. Whether you dip pizza in it, drizzle it on salads, or use it to cool down chicken wings, you have never expected this new ranch application—ice cream. Yep, you read that right. Hidden Valley Ranch and Van Leeuwen
Ice Cream have teamed up to create a limited-edition ranch-flavored ice cream, and yes, we tried it.

We invited the Delish team to sample this unusual new concoction, which has the savory flavors of ranch with a bit of sweetness—perfect for pairing with salty snacks.

"Way less offensive than I expected," said Editorial Assistant Gabby Romero. She noted how creamy and herbaceous it was, but said it could have been a little tangier.

"[It] tastes like they folded a packet of ranch seasoning into vanilla ice cream which is… good?" said Associate Food Producer Justin Sullivan.

"It's kind of good. It almost tasted like a dip—a creamy dip," said Assistant Digital Food Producer Taylor Worden. "I would eat it."

And Art Director Carlos Dominguez called it a "deadly midnight snack."

While it sounds odd and quite frankly gross, the cooling, creamy nature of ranch kind of makes sense for a frozen treat like ice cream. Since ranch is a natural dipping sauce, we tried dipping potato chips and pretzels into it too.

Dominguez thought it tasted even better with the pretzels, and Worden said it made the pretzel taste sweeter than the ice cream. I don't even like ranch and found the ice cream to be pretty good, especially with the salty snacks dipped in.

So the consensus? While one team member shied away after just smelling the pint, all of us who actually tasted this weird flavor actually liked it, or at least didn't find it too repulsive.

The new Hidden Valley Ranch flavor is part of Van Leeuwen's lineup of spring flavors, all of which will be sold exclusively at Walmart. The seven flavors include Hidden Valley Ranch, Sweet Maple Cornbread, Blood Orange Poppy, Strawberry Shortcake, Carrot Cake, Graham Cracker Crunch, and Limoncello Cake. The Hidden Valley Ranch is limited-edition, however, and will only be available from March 20 to May 28.
