Teacher fired after accidentally dropping bullets out of his pocket during pre-K class

A substitute teacher was fired after bullets fell out of his pocket while he taught a pre-Kindergarten class on Thursday. Police were called to the Elmwood Street School in Millbury, Mass. after a fellow teacher heard the bullets hit the floor, and notified the principal.

Millbury Police Chief Donald Desorcy told WHDH 7News the teacher’s license to carry was immediately suspended. Officers later seized six handguns, a total of 12 shotguns and rifles, and ammunition from his home, where they said the weapons were improperly secured.

“He claimed he was shooting the day before, so apparently he was wearing the same clothing two days in a row,” Desorcy told 7News. “He claims he had left magazines in his pocket… That showed very, very poor judgment.”

“That kind of an oversight, even if you legitimately forget that you have something like that in your pocket, is not going to be tolerated,” Millbury School Superintendent Greg Myers told 7News. Myers has since reached out to parents to make it clear that the school is safe.

FOX25 reports the teacher was licensed to carry and his weapons were registered. His name was not made public since he has not been criminally charged. The Millbury Police Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
