TCU files countersuit vs. Kolby Listenbee
TCU has responded to a lawsuit by former wide receiver Kolby Listenbee with a lawsuit of its own.
The school filed a countersuit against Listenbee on Friday. The ex-WR alleges he was pressured to return quickly from a pelvic injury suffered early in his senior season in 2015. He said TCU’s coaching staff pushed him to come back too soon and disparaged him while he was injured.
Listenbee filed his suit on Thursday.

TCU said in its suit that Listenbee was treated by doctors contracted by the school through the Alamo Bowl at the end of the season. Then he never saw the team’s medical staff again. It says that since its doctors were contractors and not school employees, they should be sued individually and the school should be removed from Listenbee’s lawsuit.

“Defendant’s last game for TCU was played on January 2, 2016 against Oregon. Following that game, defendant failed to return to TCU to complete an exit exam by either physician.”
“Upon information and belief, defendant trained extensively in January and February 2016 at a facility in another state. He also voluntarily participated in the NFL combine in Indianapolis, Indiana in late February of 2016 where he posted the second-fastest time that year in the 40-yard dash at 4.39 seconds.”
TCU also said it received notice of a possible suit by Listenbee in September. Listenbee, who has not played in an NFL game, says TCU rushed him back too soon from his injury and gave him doses of anesthetics and corticosteroids before every game upon his return. He claims his rush to the field after his injury combined with the drug use helped leave him with pelvic instability, which required surgeries to fix.

The suit by the school makes no reference to claims by Listenbee that coach Gary Patterson, then-offensive coordinator Doug Meacham and others pressured him to come back from his injury too quickly. Listenbee returned less than a month after suffering the injury vs. TCU and even alleged in his suit that Patterson threatened to dismiss him from the team if TCU lost to Texas while Listenbee was unable to play.
