Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce: A Comprehensive Dating Timeline

In her life, Taylor Swift has done things way greater than dating the boy on the football team, but that won’t stop people from obsessing over her romance with Travis Kelce.

It all started when the 34-year-old NFL player revealed that he attempted to give the 34-year-old pop star his number via friendship bracelet during a stop on the Eras Tour. “I was disappointed that she doesn’t talk before or after her shows because she has to save her voice for the 44 songs that she sings,” Kelce said during a July episode of his New Heights podcast, which he cohosts with his brother, Jason Kelce. “So I was a little butt-hurt I didn’t get to hand her one of the bracelets I made for her.”

He added, “She doesn’t meet anybody, or at least she didn’t want to meet me, so I took it personal.” Well, according to the celebrity rumor mill, Taylor Swift wasn’t averse to meeting Travis Kelce after all. She accepted his offer to attend a Kansas City Chiefs game on September 24, and things have moved fairly quickly from there.

The power couple has now given us many sweet moments—from date nights in NYC to Kelce's gushing about Swift on his podcast—and showed how much they support each other's careers (Swift is now a staple at Chiefs games, while Kelce goes to as many Eras Tour shows as he can).

Here is a complete timeline of their relationship, most recent developments first.

January 30, 2024: You don't need to be a master lip reader to hear Kelce tell Swift, “I love you” after his playoffs win. In videos posted to social media, as Kelce approaches Swift on the field, you can hear him say, “Tay, I'm gonna go enjoy with the guys. Love you,” before going in for the hug.

At the Chiefs vs. Ravens playoff game that sent the Chiefs to the Super Bowl, Swift was spotted wearing a few pieces of especially meaningful jewelry. Per Page Six, Swift was wearing a ring with a miniature version of Kelce's jersey on it, given to her by Donna Kelce (perhaps the ultimate signal that she's gained Mama Kelce's approval). Even more adorable, however, was the diamond friendship bracelet Swift wore, which was a gift from her boyfriend himself. The tennis bracelet featured three letter charms reading “TNT" and, according to the brand, Kelce also purchased a matching version for himself.

Kelce wasn't the first “guy on the Chiefs” in Swift's life. Kelce's coach, Andy Reid, said on the Let's Go! with Tom Brady, Larry Fitzgerald and Jim Gary podcast that he'd actually met Swift way back in the day, through her dad. “I knew her before, from Philadelphia. Her dad [Scott Swift] played at [University of] Delaware and was a big football fan and good guy. So I had met him there and her,” Reid said, per People, joking that the news didn't sit too well with Travis. "So that was the last thing Trav wanted to hear, that I knew her before him. She told him, ‘I know your coach.' And he went, ‘Oh, God, come on!’”

January 21, 2024: Swift and Kylie Kelce—wife of Travis's brother Jason, who plays for the Eagles—sit together to watch the Chiefs take on the Bills in a playoff game. The Kelces' parents, Donna and Ed, were also in their suite.

Afterward, the brothers revealed on their podcast, per People, that this was Swift's first time meeting Jason and Kylie and she “absolutely loved” them. Jason also noted that his wife wasn't too happy with his decision to take his shirt off. “She was already telling me to be on my best behavior ’cause we were meeting Taylor, so she’s like, ‘Do not. Be on your best behavior,’” he said. “I was like, ‘Kylie, the first day I met you I was blackout drunk and fell asleep at the bar’…. This is part of the charm. This is part of the Jason Kelce charm. I wanna make my best first impression.”

On the field Travis celebrated scoring a touchdown with the heart hands gesture, which Swift does, like, all the time.

Later, Kelce explained that he was sending the heart energy to the Buffalo Bills fans who had gotten a little worked up. “Had to spread the love, baby,” Kelce said of the gesture on New Heights, per Yahoo! “Always got to spread that love, baby. There was a lot of hate pulling up to that stadium, man. [I] understand… Coming into their house, they want to make it rowdy. Did it get a little disrespectful? 1,000%. They got a little extra…Coming into a hostile environment, I respect it. But I just wanted to make sure they knew it wasn’t mutual. I don’t hate you guys like you hate us. It’s all love, baby.”

January 18, 2024: Everybody, hold your horses, please! In contrast to the “They'll be engaged any minute” rumors running rampant through the press, a source tells People, “They're having a lot of fun, but they're still seeing where it goes.” Sounds nice.

January 13, 2024: Swift braves subzero temperatures to watch the Kansas City Chiefs defeat the Miami Dolphins. Despite the cold weather, this may be her cutest game-day appearance yet. Wearing a custom 87 puffer coat by fellow NFL WAG Kristin Juszczyk, the pop star can be seen handing out high fives from her suite, vibing with Donna Kelce, singing along with Garth Brooks, and practically tackling close friend Brittany Mahomes during an exciting moment.

Following the Chiefs’ victory, Swift and Kelce are spotted leaving Arrowhead Stadium hand in hand.

January 11, 2024: Swift and Kelce are both nominated for People's Choice Awards, with Swift picking up noms in five categories and Kelce earning his first nomination for athlete of the year.

December 31, 2023: Of course, Taylor Swift attends the Chiefs game against the Cincinnati Bengals—and this time she's wearing a slightly altered version of Travis Kelce's letterman jacket from the previous week.

Later in the evening, the pair are spotted ringing in 2024 with a romantic New Year's Eve kiss. In one video circulating on social media, it looks like Swift is wearing a sparkling silver minidress and Midnights-esque hairpiece.

December 25, 2023: Swift attends Kelce's Christmas Day game against the Las Vegas Raiders. During the game she can be seen sporting a Santa hat with his jersey number on it.

December 22, 2023: Patrick Mahomes declares Swift “part of the team” in a gushing interview with CBS Mornings.

“For us, there were a couple of jokes here and there at the beginning, but she’s just part of Chiefs Kingdom now,” Mahomes says. “It’s cool that she’s embraced [Brittany Mahomes], and they’ve built a friendship as well. For me, it’s just Travis, man. He’s lucky enough to be with a great girl and great woman.”

He continues, “It’s been cool to interact with her because she’s top-tier at her profession. Just seeing how she drives and she becomes that…. Now I have a first hand look at that through Brittany and Travis’s eyes.”

December 20, 2023: After Swift was loudly and robustly booed while supporting Kelce at the Chiefs game against the New England Patriots at Gillett Stadium, Kelce went out of his way to praise the way his girlfriend handled it. Swift, who's used to all sorts of attention by now, merely shrugged and blew the cameras a kiss in response to the crowd.

On his New Heights podcast, Travis told his brother, Eagles center Jason Kelce, “They showed Taylor at the game, and you don’t see an entire home team fan base go insane for somebody wearing the opposite team’s colors. It just shows you how amazing that girl is. They went absolutely insane when they showed her on the screen.”

December 17, 2023: Swift wears Kelce's number 87 on her hand-knit beanie while attending his game against the Patriots.

December 6, 2023: Swift speaks out about her relationship for the first time, confirming that she started seeing Kelce shortly after he called her out on his podcast in July, a move she describes as “metal as hell.”

“We started hanging out right after that. So we actually had a significant amount of time that no one knew, which I’m grateful for, because we got to get to know each other," she tells Time as part of her ‘Person of the Year’ interview. "By the time I went to that first game, we were a couple. I think some people think that they saw our first date at that game? We would never be psychotic enough to hard-launch a first date.”

She continued, “When you say a relationship is public, that means I’m going to see him do what he loves, we’re showing up for each other, other people are there and we don’t care. The opposite of that is you have to go to an extreme amount of effort to make sure no one knows that you’re seeing someone. And we’re just proud of each other.”

Swift also addresses some complaints about her screen time at his football games. “I don’t know how they know what suite I’m in,” she says of the cameras. “There’s a camera, like, a half-mile away, and you don’t know where it is, and you have no idea when the camera is putting you in the broadcast, so I don’t know if I’m being shown 17 times or once.” She continues, “I’m just there to support Travis. I have no awareness of if I’m being shown too much and pissing off a few dads, Brads, and Chads.”

December 1, 2023: Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce reportedly join Patrick and Brittany Mahomes at the Miracle on Main Street charity Christmas bash in Kansas City. In one photo shared by the Daily Mail, Swift can be seen chatting with Brittany, who is wearing a reindeer onesie. For her part, Swift appears to be dressed more low-key, in a plaid miniskirt and black sweater, though her full look is slightly obscured in the image.

November 28, 2023: Hmmmm. On November 27, Swift (whose account follows no one) “liked” a post from the Chiefs celebrating one of Kelce's career milestones. But Swifties point out that so far, @killatrav hasn't returned the favor. In a TikTok posted November 15, one user notes that while many of Swift's ex-boyfriends, ex-friends, and even her ex-record label follow her, Travis doesn't, and as of November 28, this is still true.

Commenters, however, posit that Instagram is “not that deep,” that Kelce might not even run his own account and that since he has her phone number, it's not like he really needs to see her posts for updates.

November 22, 2023: Travis Kelce says he will be “alone” on Thanksgiving. On the latest episode of his podcast, Travis revealed he will be "feasting on KFC because I won't have anybody here.” Don't worry, Jason invited him to make a “quick trip” to his place.

He also spoke about his WSJ. Magazine interview, praising the publication for "how they showcased not only my love for Kansas City but my love for the people I have around me.” Does this count as dropping the L-word?

November 20, 2023: In his cover interview with WSJ. Magazine, Kelce and co. open up about his relationship with Taylor Swift. Kelce describes Swift as “hilarious” and “a genius,” saying, “Everybody knows I’m a family guy. Her team is her family. Her family does a lot of stuff in terms of the tour, the marketing, being around, so I think she has a lot of those values as well, which is right up my alley.”

WSJ also describes a “magical moment” that happened when Traylor spent the evening with friends around Kelce’s fire pit. One of those friends says the couple looked like two “peas in a pod” as they broke out into a performance of “Teenage Dirtbag” by Wheatus.

Kelce neither confirms nor denies the duet, adding, “There was some wine involved, for sure.”

Meanwhile, Kelce’s mom Donna says, “He’s happier than I’ve seen him in a long time.... God bless him, he shot for the stars!”

Kelce reveals he was a big Swiftie before attending his first Eras Tour show in July and that his favorite album was 1989. “‘Blank Space’ was one I wanted to hear live for sure,” he says. “‘I could make a bad guy good for the weekend.’ That’s a helluva line!” He says it’s a miracle the way she turns life into poetry. “I’ve never been a man of words,” he tells the magazine. “Being around her, seeing how smart Taylor is, has been f—ing mind-blowing. I’m learning every day.”

When asked what he brings to the table, Kelce whips out a Chris Farley impression. “I told Taylor
that I have that world, I’ve got to introduce it to her,” he says. “I let her know: This is my jam right here.”

November 17, 2023: Patrick Mahomes says Swift is not a distraction for Kelce or the rest of the Kansas City Chiefs. “I’ve been lucky enough to meet Taylor and see how good of a person she is,” Mahomes told ESPN’s Jeff Darlington. “I think you can understand why it’s not become a distraction or anything like that because everybody cares about being the best they can be every day.”

Mahomes also says there isn’t much of a difference between all the Traylor excitement and Super Bowl buzz. “People see the whole Taylor Swift and Travis [thing], and they make it a huge deal because it is a huge deal,” he says. “I think it becomes a bigger deal to the fan bases than it does to the guys who are actually in the building.”

He added, “We’ll see when we get to the off-season, maybe I’m traveling to Europe to go to a concert or something."

November 13, 2023: Gigi Hadid slams tabloid rumors that she disapproves of Swift and Kelce’s relationship. “I’m a couple days late to this tag.. but didn’t the press try this last week w Selena [Gomez]?” she commented on a Perez Hilton Instagram post. “Let it be.. we are all over the moon for our girl. Period.”

November 11, 2023: Tonight is a huge night for Traylor in Buenos Aires! Kelce spends the evening jamming out in the Eras Tour VIP tent with Swift’s dad, who was wearing a Kansas City Chiefs lanyard.

Not only does Kelce sing along to “Blank Space,” but Swift performs “End Game” as one of her surprise songs. The Reputation track has become the couple’s unofficial theme song among fans, thanks to lyrics like “I wanna be your first string, I wanna be your A-team,” and “Ooh, you and me, we’d be a big conversation.”

If that wasn’t enough, she then goes on to change a “Karma” lyric to “Karma is the guy on the Chiefs running straight home to me.” Swifties can hardly believe it, and based on his reaction, neither can Kelce.

However, the most romantic moment of the night comes after the concert ends. Based on a fan-captured video, Swift waves goodbye to fans until she notices Kelce waiting for her backstage and proceeds to run straight into his arms and gives him a kiss.

November 10, 2023: After touching down in Argentina, Kelce is seen holding hands with Swift at a restaurant in Buenos Aires. Swift, who was forced to postpone her Eras Tour concert due to heavy rainfall, wears a pleated miniskirt, long-sleeve black top, and boots, which is quickly becoming her signature look. According to People, Swift’s father, Scott Swift, appeared to join the couple for dinner. According to their source, “Travis was beaming” during the “low-key date night.”

November 9, 2023: Taylor Swift kicked off her three-night Eras Tour stop in Buenos Aires by performing two surprise songs, “The Very First Night” and “Labyrinth.” The latter, of course, includes the line: “Oh no, I’m falling in love again,” leading many to wonder whether the pop star was tipping her hat to her new boyfriend. People says Travis Kelce couldn’t make the show because he chose to instead support teammate Patrick Mahomes by attending his fourth annual 15 and the Mahomies Foundation Gala in Kansas City. But according to Page Six, it sounds as though Kelce might make the trip for one of her upcoming shows in South America while the Chiefs are on a bye week—so long as he can be back for practice on Monday, that is.

November 5, 2023: Swift appears to host an NFL viewing party for Kansas City Chiefs WAGs as the team plays in Germany. Following Swift’s night out with Brittany Mahomes, Paige Buechele and Lyndsay Bell are photographed exiting the pop star’s apartment wearing team merch.

November 3, 2023: Kelce is asked if he’s “in love” during a press conference. He smiles as he responds, “I’m going to keep my personal relationship personal.”

October 27, 2023: On 1989 (Taylor’s Version) release day, a fan shares a video of Kelce dancing to “Shake It Off” while attending the first game of the 2023 World Series in Arlington, Texas.

Later, Kelce appeared to shake it off to another Swift hit at a postgame party, according to one fan who shared a video of the tight end singing and dancing to “Love Story.”

A source tells People the relationship is progressing. “It’s quickly turning more serious,” the source says. “They share a strong work ethic and have a huge appreciation for life and their careers, strong family bond and values.” They added that Kelce is “sweet, goofy, and just a blast to be around.”

October 25, 2023: Travis Kelce acknowledges that he plays better with Swift watching.

October 23, 2023: Kelce and Swift go to dinner at Argentine steakhouse Piropos in Kansas City, per photos published by The Daily Mail.

October 22, 2023: Oh, Traylor fans were fed today! Swift attends her fourth Kansas City Chiefs game wearing a vintage Chiefs crewneck over a Chiefs T-shirt, black miniskirt, and black booties before changing into a pair of white and red sneakers post-game. And she finally got a friendship bracelet with Kelce's number on it—his “87” jersey number that is.

Following the game, Kelce has the best reaction to being called “Taylor Swift's boyfriend” by a fan, pumping his fist in response. For her part, Swift gives Kelce a kiss on the cheek in a post-game couple photo shared by wide receiver Mecole Hardman's girlfriend Chariah Gordon.

October 20, 2022: Kelce advises Swifties on how to achieve the perfect Traylor couple costume. “I’ll tell you what, man, that ‘stache and the 87 jersey was pretty iconic there for a little bit and I had it when I met Taylor for the first time, so I guess my ‘stache,” he says during a press conference, per Page Six. Kelce also suggested wearing friendship bracelets, for obvious reasons.

October 18, 2023: Kelce dispels rumors he “pushed” Swift's security guard out of the way to open to door for her during their post-SNL outing. “I didn’t push. I placed my hand on the gentleman’s back to let him know I was behind him…. If I would have pushed him, he probably would have turned around and tased me,” he tells his brother on New Heights, per Page Six.

He also describes himself as “protective," telling Jason, "I feel like whenever I’m on a date, I’m always having the sense [that] I’m a man in the situation.”

October 15, 2023 (Part II): The evening after their SNL appearances, the couple are photographed engaging in “weird hand-holding poses” outside the Waverly Inn. Katy Perry approves.

October 14, 2023: According to TMZ video footage, Swift and Kelce go to dinner at Nobu before attending the live taping of Saturday Night Live in New York City. Both Kelce and Swift make surprise cameos during the show, with Swift introducing musical guest Ice Spice and Kelce appearing in a sketch about the NFL's obsessive Traylor coverage.

October 12, 2023: Swift attends her third Kansas City Chiefs game, this time wearing some meaningful merch.

October 11, 2023: Kelce does not join Swift at the premiere of The Eras Tour concert movie in Los Angeles. Beyoncé was there, though!

October 6, 2023: In the morning, Donna Kelce played it coy when asked about Swift on Today. “It was okay,” she said of their time together. As for her son's relationship with the pop star: “It's fairly new, so I don’t like to talk about it. It’s just one of those things where you know, obviously, everybody saw me. I was in the boxes with her and it’s just another thing that’s amped up my life.”

Later in the evening, Travis Kelce spoke about his mindset amid all this media whirlwind. “As all the attention comes, it feels like, you know, I was on top of the world after the Super Bowl and right now I’m even more on top of the world," he said at a press conference.

To the delight of Swifties, he continued, "We’re learning with the paparazzi just taking photos from all over the place, but at the same time, it comes with it. You’ve got a lot of people that care about Taylor, and for good reason. You just have to keep living and learning and enjoying the moments. At the end of the day, I have always been good at compartmentalizing and being able to stay focused in this building. I will just keep rolling with that.”

In his November 2023 interview with WSJ. Magazine, Kelce explains that he was trying to be on his best behavior with the press following the initial fanfare. He says, “That was the biggest thing to me: make sure I don’t say anything that would push Taylor away.”

Of the fandom surrounding Swift, he tells WSJ., "Obviously I’ve never dated anyone with that kind of aura about them.... I’ve never dealt with it. But at the same time, I’m not running away from any of it.... The scrutiny she gets, how much she has a magnifying glass on her, every single day, paparazzi outside her house, outside every restaurant she goes to, after every flight she gets off, and she’s just living, enjoying life. When she acts like that I better not be the one acting all strange.”

Kelce says his mom was also trying to play it cool during the early days, and was upset that she came off as “underwhelmed” when talking about Swift, so he made sure to call her and say that she did a great job.

October 4, 2023, later that day: Amid everyone getting just a little tired of this whole thing, the NFL says that changing a banner or a bio doesn't detract from the football of it all. In a statement to People, the league says:

October 4, 2023: Travis Kelce admits that the NFL might be leaning a little too hard into all the attention his new relationship with Taylor Swift is getting. On his podcast, New Heights With Jason and Travis Kelce, which he cohosts with his brother and fellow NFL player Jason, Kelce acknowledged that the NFL is overdoing it a bit with the constant cuts to Swift watching the games from her VIP box or changing their official Instagram bio to “chiefs are 2-0 as swifties.”

“They’re overdoing it a little bit for sure, especially my situation. [But] I think they’re just trying to have fun with it,” Kelce said, per People. “’Cause you never know you get caught you know just throwing a big ol' cheeseburger in and you look like an idiot you know what I mean, there's just certain things... You just don't want to be on TV at all times.”

October 1, 2023: According to Page Six, Travis Kelce is seen leaving Swift's apartment on October 1 and even shared “good morning” pleasantries with witnesses. Still, it's unclear that he slept over, as one source tells the publication that the football player “stuck to the team’s strict 11 p.m. curfew.” Perhaps he simply came back over for breakfast?

Anyway, let's get to the important stuff. That evening Swift is joined at MetLife stadium by a gaggle of famous faces, including Blake Lively, Sophie Turner, Brittany Mahomes, Ryan Reynolds, and Hugh Jackman, to name just a few (click here for more information on the crew).

Throughout the Chiefs’ nail-biting game against the New York Jets, Swift seemingly found time to jokingly troll the tight end and share a sweet moment with his mom, Donna Kelce.

Honestly, it looks like she had a really great time.

September 30, 2023: Not a lot going on at the moment…. You know, other than Travis Kelce reportedly being spotted outside of Taylor Swift's apartment wearing what fans believe to be another Swift-coded outfit.

Later in the evening Taylor Swift has a girls night out with Brittany Mahomes, who is married to Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Mahomes joins Swift, Blake Lively, and Sophie Turner at SoHo restaurant Emilio's Ballato less than a week after reportedly hitting it off with the pop star at the postgame party.

September 27, 2023: Kelce gives fans the update they've been waiting for. “Shout-out to Taylor for pulling up,” he says on his podcast, New Heights. “That was pretty ballsy.” The tight end goes on to compliment Swift by saying, “I just thought it was awesome how everybody in the suite had nothing but great things to say about her. You know, the friends and family. She looked amazing. Everybody was talking about her in a great light, and on top of that, the day went perfect for Chiefs fans, of course.”

Regarding the interest in their relationship, he acknowledges that he was the one who made his personal life “not so personal,” admitting to his brother, “I did this to myself, Jason, I know this.” However, he plans to keep himself more tight-lipped from here on out.

“What's real is that it's my personal life and I want to respect both of our lives,” he says later in the podcast, per Today. “She's not in the media as much as I am doing this show every single week and having fun during the NFL season on other guys' shows…. So everything moving forward, I think me talking about sports and saying, ‘All right now,’ would have to be kind of where I keep it.” Smart move.

Of course, not everyone got the message. Later in the evening, TMZ published a photo from Sunday night's post-game party that featured Swift with her arm wrapped around Kelce's neck.

During the podcast the Kelce brothers also acknowledge rumors that the pair met through Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, stating that Reid “had met the Swift family before” and has been referring to himself as Cupid.

September 26, 2023: Us Weekly reports that Swift and Kelce met through a mutual friend and are "getting to know each other.” As one source tells the publication, “They have been on a few dates, and Taylor is smitten with him. It is not serious, and Taylor is having fun right now.”

The source notes that Swift “isn't looking for anything serious” as her schedule is pretty packed with her world tour. “But anything is possible,” they say. “They’re getting closer and closer every day.”

Another supposed insider tells Us Weekly that neither Kelce nor Swift “want to rush” the relationship but that “Taylor had such a blast and got along great with his mom and friends too.”

September 24, 2023: Taylor Swift is spotted cheering on the Chiefs with Kelce's mother, Donna Kelce.

The pair are then seen leaving the game together before reportedly heading to dinner. According to a TikTok user, Swift paid for all the guests at a local restaurant to quickly wrap up their meals so that the two could dine together alone. At some point in the evening, Swift and Kelce are photographed in a convertible, with Kelce at the wheel and Swift ridin' shotgun with her hair undone in the front seat of his car. Talk about a rom-com-worthy moment…

September 21, 2023: Kelce says he “threw the ball” in Swift's “court” during an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show. “I told her, you know, ‘I’ve seen you rock the stage in Arrowhead [Stadium], you might have to come see me rock the stage in Arrowhead and see which one’s a little more lit,’” Kelce said. “So we’ll see what happens in the near future.”

Kelce also speaks out about all the media attention, saying, “It’s hilarious how much traction this has actually gotten, right now it’s like a game of telephone. No one actually knows what’s going on, especially when you got [my brother] Jason Kelce on live television telling people both sides—he doesn’t know, it’s true, this and that.”

Meanwhile, a source tells E! that the pair have met in person only once in NYC. “They’ve been texting and talking here and there but [have] no set plans to see each other again,” the source said. “It’s been very low-key as he’s been in season.”

September 20, 2023: Amid rumors that the two have been “hanging out,” which neither camp has addressed, Jason, also an NFL player, is asked about the story on a morning radio show. It's hard to answer because I don't really know a lot about Travis’s love life,” the elder Kelce answered, per People. “I try to keep his business kind of his business, stay out of that world.”

But he continued, “Having said that, man, I think they're doing great and I think it's all 100% true, and I hope this thing goes a mile—no, I'm joking, I don't know what's happening.”
