Taylor Swift Skips 'TIME' Gala in Favor of Pre-Birthday Dinner With Friends

Taylor Swift's birthday is today, Wednesday, Dec. 13, but the pop star kicked off her celebrations early, opting to skip a monumental event for a pre-birthday dinner and outing with friends last night.

Interestingly enough, this year's TIME Person of the Year was absent from the publication's yearly gala, which was held on Tuesday night, Dec. 12, in New York City.

According to a tweet from a Swiftie who was nearby the venue, the "Lavender Haze" singer allegedly "canceled" her scheduled appearance the morning of the event.

"Taylor is not coming to the time event unfortunately. they just handed out magazines and told us she’s not coming to the event," the fan explained, in part, in the social media note. They also included a photo holding a printed copy of the recent issue for "proof" that they were "not lying."

And it seems the warning was the truth, as Swift did, indeed, skip out on the high-profile function.

In photos snapped from the evening, Swift can be seen donning a tan leather trench coat over an all-black 'fit, paired with matching platform boots. Alongside her were pals Miles Teller and his wife, Keleigh Sperry, as the trio was captured exiting a vehicle and walking into members-only club, Zero Bond. As evidenced by additional images, the group was joined by the singer's bestie, Selena Gomez, who didn't initially arrive with them, but reportedly caught up with the crew for dinner.

TIME's Person of the Year gala honors the publication's, well, person of the year, so it seems like a big deal that Taylor decided not to attend, given the fact that she appears on the cover of the issue. But alas, the "Cruel Summer" artist was obviously displaying peak birthday behavior.

Her absence was also wildly surprising, as she had jetted back to NYC from Kansas City earlier in the day, supposedly for the event, after supporting boyfriend Travis Kelce during the pro athlete's Sunday night NFL game in Missouri.

With today being her special day, we'll be keeping our eyes peeled—along with the Swifties, of course—for any celebratory footage that surfaces.
