Remember when Kanye West hopped on stage during the 2009 VMAs and interrupted Taylor Swift mid-speech? 'Cause she sure does!

Taylor seemingly referenced the moment during her Eras Tour stop in Mexico City, when she said "Wow, people chanting your name, it's really the only way to be interrupted…and I would know."

Back in 2019, Taylor released her diary entry from after Kanye's infamous VMAs interruption, which reads “Ahh…the things that can change in a week…Let’s just say, if you had told me Kanye West would have been the number one focus of my week, the media, and my part in the VMAs, I would’ve looked at you crossed-eyed.…And if you had told me that one of the biggest stars in music was going to jump up onstage and announce that he thought I shouldn’t have won on live television, I would’ve said, ‘That stuff doesn’t really happen in real life.’ Well…apparently…it does.”

She also gave her reaction in the immediate aftermath of the VMAs, saying—per Billboard's complete oral history of the incident—“That moment of winning a Video Music Award was mind-blowing and I felt really good, and when Kanye first jumped up on stage I was really excited because I’m a huge fan and then… I was not as excited.”

Oh, and Tay addressed the moment on The View, saying "My overall thought process went something like: wow, I can't believe I won, this is awesome, don't trip and fall, I'm gonna get to thank the fans, this is so cool. Oh, Kanye West is here. Cool haircut. What are you doing there?' And then, 'Ouch.' And then, 'I guess I'm not gonna get to thank the fans.'"
