Taylor Swift Says Casting Dylan O’Brien and Sadie Sink Was ‘What My Heart Needed’

She also admitted the 'All Too Well' short film may not have happened had Sink turned down the role.
On Friday, Taylor Swift attended the Toronto International Film Festival and revealed why she decided to cast Dylan O'Brien and Sadie Sink in her short film, All Too Well.
During an interview, Swift was asked about the casting and what led the 32-year-old to choose these two actors–and her response was just as wholesome and endearing as one would expect from the artist.
"I don't know if it was a decision; it was what my heart needed," Swift admitted.
Swift continued: "It was a very [instinctual] decision based on having watched their performances. If I had to assign analytical thought to it, I would say I had never seen either one of them play roles like this before, and I've seen them just ace anything that was put in front of them, and I just thought, I wonder if Sadie Sink wants to play a romantic lead."
She went on to talk about O'Brien (best known for his role in Teen Wolf and the Maze Runner series), where she revealed that his on-screen "charisma" initially made the award-winning singer want to cast the actor in her short.
"I've seen his films, and I've seen him, I mean even just him doing an interview, you can see that he's got this, this just like you know, this dangerous charm," she said as the audience erupted in laughter.
Swift continued: "Like him as a person, he's not dangerous, but he's dangerously charming and that he's just like, that is a power that he has."
She then admitted that when she wrote her short film, she wrote the part specifically for Sink.
"I was writing it for Sadie, and if she would've said no, I just don't know if I would've made the film," Swift noted.
So it looks like we all have Sink to thank for the for short–Swift, included.
Since its Nov. 2021 release, All Too Well: The Short Film has garnered more than 75 million views and earned Swift three MTV Video Music Awards last month; including Best Direction, Best Long-Form Video, and the Video Of The Year Award.
The video is just one award shy of EGOT status–as previously reported, All Too Well:The Short Film is also up for an Academy Award.
