Taylor Swift & Ryan Adams Talk John Hughes & Dreaming Songs

In promotion of its November issue, GQ arranged for covergirl Taylor Swift to sit down with alt-country god Ryan Adams—who recently recorded and released critically lauded, track-by-track cover album of Swift’s record-breaking 1989.

The four-minute-long clip sees the two musicians discussing Swift’s affinity for asking her iPhone’s Siri function random questions, what it’s like to dream a song lyric into existence, and how their individual writing processes differ. Adams reveals that, for him, listening to The Smiths when he’s got writer’s block “recharges” him and makes him want to play guitar.

“Reeeallly…” replies Swift, who co-wrote all but one song on 1989—before explaining that she, personally, finds inspiration in John Hughes movies.
