Taylor Swift Responds to Rumor That She and Katy Perry Will Kiss in "You Need to Calm Down" Music Video

"GUYS. That is ABSOLUTELY false."

Wherever Taylor Swift goes, theories will inevitably follow her. But the singer-songwriter recently took time to address an “absolutely false” rumor about her upcoming “You Need to Calm Down” music video — and she isn’t mincing words.

As noted by People, Taylor responded to a Tumblr user who posted about a theory claiming that the singer-songwriter would share a kiss with Katy Perry in the “YNTCD” video, which is slated for a June 17 release. “Hey uhhhh @taylorswift not to question you but you do know there’s a leaked concept that you and katy dress as fries and a burger and kiss. you do know that’s dumb, right? please tell me you know it’s dumb,” the Tumblr user wrote, adding that they heard about the rumor from a (now deleted) Twitter post.

Taylor was quick to respond, writing: “GUYS. That is ABSOLUTELY false. To be an ally is to understand the difference between advocating and baiting. Anyone trying to twist this positivity into something it isn’t needs to calm down. It costs zero dollars to not step on our gowns. 💗✌️” The entire exchange was screenshotted and re-posted to Instagram.

This particular rumor comes on the heels of the singers’ reconciliation earlier in June. Following a five-year feud, Katy and Taylor recently made peace over a plate of chocolate chip cookies, a photo of which was posted to IG by Katy. Taylor later seemingly confirmed their truce with a flurry of heart emojis, although some fans are wondering if there’s more to their newfound friendship…like a collab, perhaps?

Truth be told, fans have long speculated that we might see Katy and Taylor on stage (or on the screen) together at some point in the future. Given Taylor’s affinity for a good surprise, and Katy’s olive branch and apology letter from last year, we wouldn’t write off that possibility just yet. As for a “burger and fries" kiss, that theory is probably better left alone.
