Taylor Swift Releases a New Song, “The Archer”—Listen To It Now

The singer released it off her upcoming album, “Lover.”

Taylor Swift’s upcoming album Lover is out a month from today, and the singer has just released a new single off the new body of work. Titled “The Archer,” the new song follows two singles that she has released so far: “ME!” and “You Need To Calm Down.”

Shortly before releasing “The Archer,” which is track five on the album, Swift hopped on Instagram Live to announce the song; she explained that it’s not a single per se; Swift said that she wanted to showcase “a different side” of the album. “Track five is kind of a tradition that really started with you guys. Instinctively I was putting a very vulnerable, personal, honest and emotional song on track five,” Swift said.

Swift worked with her longtime collaborator, Jack Antonoff, on the new track. (He produced “Look What You Made Me Do” and other tracks by Swift.) The song has a dramatically softer, mellow vibe than her previous two singles. Many fans on social media admired its 1980s-like feel. The lyrics include moments such as, “I’ve got a hundred thrown-out speeches I almost said to you,” and “I’ve been the archer; I’ve been the pray. Who could ever leave me darling, but who could stay?”

Below, listen to “The Archer.”
