Taylor Swift Performed "Lover" and "False God" on "Saturday Night Live"

It was the first-ever live performance of "False God."

Taylor Swift returned to the Saturday Night Live stage on October 5, with two stripped-down performances off her latest album Lover.

She first performed a piano-only version of the album’s title track, giving the already-sentimental song an even more soft and sweet vibe. While singing “Lover,” Taylor was dressed head to toe in lime green (complete with green hoop earrings and a matching manicure). Her piano was lit up in fluorescent green, and both the walls and floor of the stage were colored to match. As she sang, she was surrounded by suspended sheet music, as though they were discarded pages of lyrics and notes.

Taylor came back to the spotlight a little later in the show to perform the first-ever live rendition of “False God.” Her outfit this time felt like more of a nod to Reputation-era Taylor, as she paired a black blazer with shimmering sequined black trousers. The song was the perfect mood for the SNL stage, complete with a saxophone solo and backup singers.

As expected, Taylor’s fans were endlessly excited about the singer-songwriter’s performance. “CAN WE PLEASE APPRECIATE THIS PERFORMANCE?? EVERYTHING ABOUT IT WAS SO BEAUTIFUL,” one fan wrote about Taylor’s piano version of “Lover.” Author Jenny Han even took to Twitter to remark that Taylor played her “fav,” AKA “False God.” Same, Jenny!

It’s definitely been a busy few months for Taylor. She recently performed at the VMAs and last month, she announced that she’d be taking Lover across the country with a special music festival. On top of all that, she’ll be making her feature film debut in December in the movie-musical Cats. Is there anything she can’t do?

Ahead, watch Taylor’s two SNL performances and relive the stripped-down, emotional magic all over again.
