Calling all Swifties!

At last, the time has finally come: Taylor Swift released her new song "Carolina" from the movie Where the Crawdads Sing on Friday at midnight—and we're feeling pretty enchanted. 😉 Fans of the Grammy Award-winning singer got their first tease of the ballad when the film's trailer dropped a few months ago. So, it's been a long journey, but here we are!

Swift took to social media to share a clip of the song alongside an intimate caption that explained, "About a year and a half ago I wrote a song about an incredible story, the story of a girl who always lived on the outside, looking in. Figuratively and literally. The juxtaposition of her loneliness and independence. Her longing and her stillness. Her curiosity and fear, all tangled up. Her persisting gentleness… and the world’s betrayal of it."

The songstress is known for her unique approach to songwriting and recording, and this new track is no exception. During a chat with the cast of the upcoming film, director Olivia Newman shared her excitement about the song and noted that Swift "chose instruments that were only available before 1953 [when the novel begins] and she recorded it in one take, the way they recorded songs at the time."

Swift also said that she "wrote this one alone in the middle of the night" and that her priority was to ensure the "sound would be authentic to the moment in time when this story takes place."

Where the Crawdads Sing is based on the bestselling Delia Owens novel of the same name. The story is a murder-mystery set in rural North Carolina during the 1950s and '60s. The plot follows a young outcast named Kya—also known as the Marsh Girl—who is accused of murdering the local high school quarterback.

It seems like the whole world (including Swift!) rejoiced when it was announced that Reese Witherspoon would be turning the beloved story into a movie.

"As soon as I heard there was a film in the works starring the incredible Daisy Edgar Jones and produced by the brilliant Reese Witherspoon, I knew I wanted to be a part of it from the musical side," Swift wrote in an Instagram post unveiling the trailer.

Well, her dream came true—and today, so did ours! Let us know in the comments what you think of this hauntingly beautiful song. Oh, and be sure to get your tickets now before the premiere on July 15!
