Taylor Swift Just Doubled Down on Her Commitment to Political Activism

Taylor Swift just went there.

Two days after shocking the nation when she used Instagram to talk politics for the first time ever, Swift stuck to her guns and once again called for fans to vote in the upcoming elections.

While accepting the Artist of the Year Award — her third of the night — the 28-year-old put special emphasis on the power of the people. "I just wanted to make a mention of the fact that this award and every single award tonight was voted on by the people, and you know what else is voted on by the people … the midterm elections on November 6," she said. "Get out and vote. I love you guys."

It wasn't quite as impassioned as Kathryn Hahn and Billy Eichner's firey "get out and vote" speech, but we have a feeling it's effective enough — after all, the Washington Post reported that site visits to Vote.org, which Swift touted in her Instagram, were up by over ten times following her post.

Several conservative politicians (many of them men, for what it's worth) denounced Taylor for her Democratic endorsements, as well as her pointed criticisms of Marsha Blackburn, a Republican candidate endorsed by Donald Trump. Not surprisingly, Trump was among her critics, as was Mike Huckabee and Fox & Friends host Charlie Kirk.

Swift has been knocked in the past for failing to use her platform to speak out about issues, but, as she wrote on Instagram, she feels she can no longer stay silent. "In the past I’ve been reluctant to publicly voice my political opinions, but due to several events in my life and in the world in the past two years, I feel very differently about that now," she posted.

Looks like she's sticking to that promise.
