Taylor Swift Fans Think She’s Rerecording Her Red Album, and There’s Evidence

Taylor Swift has had quite the eventful couple of weeks. She starred in a new Capital One commercial packed with Easter eggs, made a powerful statement after Scooter Braun sold her master recordings for a hefty profit, and took home three American Music Awards, including Artist of the Year.

She also posted a new image on Instagram and Twitter over the weekend that got all her fans talking—and theorizing, of course. The photo shows the singer on a couch, in a cozy cabin-like environment that looks like the physical embodiment of the Folklore album. “not a lot going on at the moment,” she wrote in the caption. But when it comes to Taylor Swift, even a casual fan knows that when she says something like that, there is usually a lot going on.

Some thought she was hinting at recording another new album.

“LAST TIME SHE DID THIS SHE STARTED RECORDING FOLKLORE.. MS. SWIFT WHAT ARE YOU DOING,” one fan tweeted. “MA’AM I DONT TRUST YOU CAUSE LAST TIME YOU CAPTIONED A PHOTO WITH THIS YOU WERE DOING A FOLKLORE PHOTOSHOOT THE SAME DAY SO WHAT DOES IT MEEEEEAAAAANNNN,” another wrote.

Other fans guessed she might be filming the music video for “Exile," her song with Bon Iver from Folklore.

The quote in the caption actually references a shirt that Swift wears in the video for “22” from her album, Red.

This led fans to think the singer meant she was in the middle of rerecording that album. “For all the hints and signs, the easter eggs and hairstyles, thank you taylor swift! RED re-recordings are coming,” one fan tweeted.

Swift once again confirmed she is, indeed, rerecording her masters while accepting her AMA. “The reason I’m not there tonight is I’m actually recording all of my old music in the studio where we originally recorded it,” she said. “So it’s been amazing and I can’t wait for you to hear it.” The singer also talked about getting back into the studio to record her old music after it was announced that Scooter Braun had sold her masters to an investment firm. Taylor Swift became contractually allowed to rerecord her own music on November 1, a date fans have had marked in their calendars.

Some even took the Zodiac tapestry behind her during her AMAs acceptance speech as a sign.

Whatever is going on, we’re pretty sure Swift is sending intentional signals. And if she is rerecording Red, we’re very excited for a 2020 spin on “All Too Well.“
