On Friday, January 27, Taylor Swift debuted the official music video for her new single "Lavender Haze." The third official release from Taylor's Midnights album, the "Lavender Haze" video, is filled with tons of Easter eggs and followed the Grammy Award-winning singer as she sang heartfelt lyrics about the importance of protecting love.

News of Taylor's new video threw fans into a frenzy on Twitter. On Thursday, January 26, singer John Mayer, who was romantically linked to Taylor from 2009 through 2010, tweeted details announcing his Solo Tour 2023 at 7:50 a.m. Less than an hour later, Taylor revealed that she would be releasing the "Lavender Haze" video at midnight on January 27. While it could've been a complete coincidence, Swifties quickly took to Twitter with hilarious hot takes about the timeliness of both announcements.

Last October, Taylor opened up about what Lavender Haze means and how it relates to her six-year relationship with Joe Alwyn. "I happened upon the phrase when I was watching Mad Men," she recounted on Instagram. After looking it up, Taylor discovered that "if you were in Lavender Haze, you were in that all-encompassing love glow."

For Taylor, Lavender Haze means that "you'll do anything to stay there and not let people get you down off of that cloud" when you're in love. She also dished on how relatable the song is to her fans just as much as it is to her. "We live in the social media era, and if the world finds out you're in love with somebody, they're going to weigh in on it," the Midnights singer added before dishing on how her relationship has dealt with public scrutiny. "We've had to dodge weird rumors, tabloid stuff, and we just ignore," Taylor said. "This song is sort of about the act of ignoring that stuff to protect the real stuff."

Now that you know what inspired Taylor to create the new song, read ahead to check out the lyrics for "Lavender Haze" below.

[Intro]
Meet me at midnight

[Verse 1]

Staring at the ceiling with you
Oh, you don't ever say too much
And you don't really read into
My melancholia

[Pre-Chorus]

I been under scrutiny (Yeah, oh, yeah)
You handle it beautifully (Yeah, oh, yeah)
All this shit is new to me (Yeah, oh, yeah)

[Chorus]
I feel the lavender haze creeping up on me
Surreal
I'm damned if I do give a damn what people say
No deal
The 1950s shit they want from me
I just wanna stay in that lavender haze

[Verse 2]

All they keep asking me (All they keep asking me)
Is if I'm gonna be your bride
The only kinda girl they see (Only kinda girl they see)
Is a one-night or a wife

[Pre-Chorus]

I find it dizzying (Yeah, oh, yeah)
They're bringing up my history (Yeah, oh, yeah)
But you weren't even listening (Yeah, oh, yeah)

[Chorus]

I feel the lavender haze creepin' up on me
Surreal
I'm damned if I do give a damn what people say
No deal
The 1950s sh*t they want from me
I just wanna stay in that lavender haze

[Post-Chorus]
That lavender haze

[Bridge]

Talk your talk and go viral
I just need this love spiral
Get it off your chest
Get it off my desk (Get it off my desk)
Talk your talk and go viral
I just need this love spiral
Get it off your chest
Get it off my desk

[Chorus]

I feel (I feel), the lavender haze creeping up on me
Surreal
I'm damned if I do give a damn what people say
No deal (No deal)
The 1950s sh*t they want from me
I just wanna stay in that lavender haze

[Outro]

Get it off your chest
Get it off my desk
That lavender haze
I just wanna stay
I just wanna stay in that lavender haze
