Taylor Swift could make an insane amount of money for the song she wrote with Calvin Harris
Earlier this year, Taylor split from her longtime love, producer/DJ Calvin Harris which was devastating for all of us. Shortly after the breakup, Harris released the song “This is What You Came For” featuring Rihanna which became an instant hit. The songwriting was credited to Harris and “Nils Sjoberg,” while Harris was the sole producer. Not only is “Nils Sjoberg” actually the pop powerhouse, but Swift made a LOT of money writing the song.
Our girl Taylor is a smart cookie; while the songwriting credit wasn’t in her name, she owns a piece of the publishing company credited to the songwriting! We all know that “This is What You Came For” was a Top Five hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart (it peaked at Number 3) so it means that Swift can be looking at a big cash payout for her involvement. According to a knowledgeable source who spoke to Forbes songs as successful as that “can earn any songwriter $500,000 or $600,000 over time.” Holy cow.
And let’s not forget about the other huge song Swift wrote this year, “Better Man,” for country music supergroup Little Big Town. While it’s only heavily assumed to be about Harris, we don’t need to assume its success. The song has hit 52 on the Hot 100 chart and peaked at number 6 on the Hot Country chart. So if she’s making top dollar for both songs (and let’s face it, it’s Taylor Swift so of course she will), she can dry her tears with her dollar dollar bills y’all.
