Taylor Swift’s “You Need to Calm Down” Video Features a Drag Competition With Ariana Grande, Beyoncé, Cardi B, and More

“Now we all got crowns.”

It's a brand-new day, everyone. Thanks to Taylor Swift, there is finally peace in the pop-star kingdom, and I believe I heard the sounds of birds humming along to "You Need to Calm Down."

After teasing fans with a stream of colorful social media posts, Taylor officially released the video for "You Need to Calm Down," the latest single from her upcoming album Lover. Prior to the video release on Monday morning, June 17, fans had speculated that Katy Perry might make a cameo in the video, pointing to the pair's recent baked-goods peace offering. The two started feuding in 2014, with backup dancers as the alleged reason for their rift.

Thankfully, that feud is behind us now, and Taylor and Katy shared a hug for the clip. Of course, it wasn't an ordinary reunion: Katy brought her Met Gala 2019 burger after-party look back for the video, and Taylor dressed as fries. As one Twitter user perfectly put it, "Taylor Swift and Katy Perry go together like a burger and French fries."

The unexpected reunion of fast-food faves wasn't the only moment of pop-star peace though. The video culminated with a Pop Queen Drag Race pageant that featured music's biggest names walking away with a crown, and a RuPaul cameo. The queens represented artists including Cardi B, Lady Gaga, Nicki Minaj, Beyoncé, Ariana Grande, and Adele. Of course, Katy and Taylor were represented, too.

In keeping with the song's message of support for the LGBTQ+ community, Taylor also enlisted the help of some famous friends, including the cast of Queer Eye, Hayley Kiyoko, and Laverne Cox. Ryan Reynolds, meanwhile, was spotted painting New York's historic gay bar Stonewall.

Fans on social media were quick to support Taylor's vision, writing, "I love how she supports all qualities and share peace with all fandomes she means that there's no queen between us we are all queens we don't need to fight" and "TAYLOR SAID WORLD PEACE."
