To all the young people who aren't concerned about the coronavirus pandemic that has already taken thousands of lives, Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande have a pointed message for you. The two celebrities were among several who implored their fans to take social distancing seriously. While younger people are not as likely to become seriously ill with coronavirus, they can carry the virus and infect those more vulnerable: older people and/or those with compromised immune systems and respiratory issues.

Grande shared an Instagram Story yesterday afternoon, writing to her fans:

"I keep hearing from a surprising amount of people statements like 'this isn’t a big deal' / 'we’ll be fine' … 'we still have to go about our lives' and it’s really blowing my mind.

I understand if that’s how u felt weeks ago. But please read about what’s going on. Please don’t turn a blind eye.

It is incredibly dangerous and selfish to take this situation that lightly. The 'we will be fine because we’re going' mindset is putting people who aren’t young and / or healthy in a lot of danger. You sound stupid and privileged and you need to care more about others. Like now."

She posted a second story, adding, "Like your hip hop yoga class can fucking wait I promise"

Over on her Twitter, Grande encouraged her fans to call their senators and support "h.r.6201 which has passed the house. This bill will provide people w necessary financial support in terms of paid sick leave / unemployment due to corona virus / isolation / prevention ! Please contact your senate to support the passing of this bill ! Urgently."

Swift shared an Instagram Story last night, making the same points as Grande. She wrote:

Guys - I follow you online and I love you guys so much and need to express my concern that things aren’t being taken seriously enough right now. I’m seeing lots of get together and hangs and parties still happening. This is the time to cancel plans, actually truly isolate as much as you can, and don’t assume you aren’t possibly passing something on to someone elderly or vulnerable to this. It’s a really scary time but we need to make social sacrifices right now.

Sophie Turner posted an Instagram Story of her and Jonas wearing masks and gloves, writing, "No f*cking around. Stay safe everyone."

And Cyrus posted a PSA with a throwback Hannah Montana clip to implore people not to panic buy. She wrote:

Be thoughtful. Respectful. Compassionate. HUMAN. while preparing for social distancing.... NO ONE needs every soup in the store, The more we hoard the more expensive and sparse necessities will become, leaving many without essentials. This is a great time to practice restraint... it’s incredibly difficult to make smart decisions while panicking , but think twice before following the fear and being inconsiderate. There is enough to go around if we take care of one another. This is a beautiful time to LEAD!
