Taylor Swift may be best known as a singer and songwriter, but she's no stranger to the acting world. From cameos on New Girl and CSI to movie roles in features like Valentine's Day, Taylor has racked up quite an onscreen resumé. But one credit we'll never see on her IMDb is for a guest role on The Vampire Diaries, because it didn't end up happening.
In a recent interview with E! News, The Vampire Diaries alum Nina Dobrev revealed Taylor almost appeared in the hit CW series back in the day. Nina recalled, "I remember at the very beginning, we heard that Taylor Swift was a fan of the show. Then the producers tried to write a role for her. It didn't work out schedule-wise, obviously, she wasn't on the show. But that was a surprising one," and went on to add, "She would have been great."
It turns out that feeling was echoed by series writer-producer Kevin Williamson, who told E! News back in 2009, "I'm desperate to have [Taylor Swift] come play a vampire. Wouldn't she make an amazing Kirsten Dunst circa Interview With the Vampire type? Oh my god, I cannot tell you how hard I'm trying to get her—I would kill to have her on the show!"
Unfortunately, Nina didn't say more about why the Taylor guest role ultimately failed to come together or even what kind of character the Vampire Diaries writers had in mind for the singer. But even though we were cheated of a Taylor-Vampire Diaries crossover moment, the "Lover" singer is still mixing acting into her schedule. Her most notable roles of late? An appearance as Bombalurina in the infamous, universally-panned Cats movie musical and a memorable performance in her own music video "The Man." But look, there's still time for a Taylor appearance on one of the Vampire Diaries reboots... does Tay watch Legacies?
Meanwhile, we'll just be watching this Damon/Elena fan video set to "Today Was a Fairytale" on repeat:
