Tay Lautner, social media personality and wife to Twilight actor Taylor Lautner has given us a glimpse into her Los Angles home following a video she shared on Instagram; a getting-ready video in collaboration with Elf Cosmetics.

This time, it’s bathroom ideas we’re taking a closer look at, with our last focus being on the kitchen following the Lautner couple’s dinner party essentials in collaboration with Anthropologie. Whilst the kitchen and dining area of the home embody a modern style, the bathroom promotes a more traditional take on interior design.

Equally as light and airy as the kitchen area of the home, the bathroom is largely understated and bright, however, the rich blue floor tiles, together with the other elements of the bathroom, such as the free-standing traditional-style bath, create a traditional bathroom.

'Traditional bathrooms are renowned for their distinct charm and appeal. Here, the Lautners have evoked a sense of comfort and warmth by weaving classical design elements together, including a roll-top freestanding bath with chrome claw feet, a chrome bath mixer with a cradle hand shower – reminiscent of the Edwardian period – and intricate tiling, forming an almost mosaic centerpiece,' explains Yousef Mansuri, director of design at C.P. Hart.

Central to successfully designing a traditional-inspired bathroom, is making sure to balance more classic pieces with modern elements. Jo Sangster, senior designer at Ripples London, elaborates: 'This bathroom embraces traditional styles but uses contemporary design techniques to create interest. A timeless rolltop bath with classic chrome brassware takes center stage and creates a stunning vista with the large picture window behind it which floods the room with light. This area is further elevated by the opulent hanging chandelier which adds a touch of glamour to the space.'

'Another focal point of the room is the statement blue tiles. Not only are they used to frame certain spaces, such as the bath and walk-in shower, but they are used to create a centerpiece on the floor,' Sangster explains.

'Sometimes a bathroom with a tiled floor can feel a little clinical especially when it is a monochrome space. However using tiles in interesting ways helps soften a space and, in this instance, create a striking centerpiece similar to a rug. This makes the room feel like more of a living space and an extension of the bedroom or dressing room.'

Whilst all-white, minimalist bathrooms are popular thanks to their clean and spacious qualities, rooms like these can run the risk of looking stark. Opting instead to inject color through accessories – such as the classical blues and whites as shown by Tay Lautner – will bring charm and character to the room.
