“As a municipal shelter, we deal mainly with stray animals, which means they’re sometimes out and about running across streets, things like that. They have a greater propensity to get injured by a vehicle when they’re out in the streets, so that allows us to help them treat them,” he said.

This is the sixth year the event has been put on, DeGrey saying it’s grown quite a bit over the years.

There are plenty of options for the flash art tattoos — whether your favorite animal is a cat, a dog, or even a bat.

DeGrey said they usually have people lining up before the event even starts. It’s cash-only and walk-in, but appointments can be set up if there are multiple waiting in line.

Not only can you get a new tattoo, but DeGrey said there will also be kittens and guinea pigs up for adoption, so you can bring home a new furry friend too.

“We love all of the support that we get in different ways. Anybody that’s willing to help the animals in any type of way, whether it’s through financial donations, adoptions, fostering, volunteering….We’re happy for any of the involvement that we get from the community because it takes the entire community to help us maintain our no-kill status,” he said.
