Tatiana Maslany may play a buttoned-up lawyer on screen, but she was showing some serious skin—and her rock-hard abs—while promoting her new show this week.
The actress, 36, donned a chic leather outfit that proved to everyone just how strong she really is.
Tatiana doesn't share a lot about her fitness routines, but she has said she's not into the "weird" body standards that come with playing a superhero on screen.
Tatiana Maslany is certainly looking the part of the badass superhero as she promotes her latest project, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.
The actress stepped out to promote the show in Los Angeles where she donned an all-black leather look that has everyone's jaws on the ground. Tatiana wore a leather bandeau and matching maxi skirt with little motorcycle gloves. And her literal washboard abs were on full display for the entire world (and MCU) to see.
The 36-year-old Orphan Black actress tackles an entirely new universe of problems as she steps into the role of the She-Hulk, who is actually a badass lawyer named Jennifer Walters who morphs into a 6’7” ripped, green superhero when she’s angry. For lovers of the original Hulk, Tatiana is playing the younger cousin of Bruce Banner.
I don't think anyone had a lady hulk spin-off on their 2022 bingo card, but the new series hit Disney+ on August 17, and based on the trailer and the first few episodes, Tatiana is looking all-over strong.
Tatiana takes her roles super seriously. I mean she did play like 11 different clones of herself in Orphan Black, so she's no stranger to physical transformations. And going from a 5’3” curly-haired lawyer to a literal Green Glamazon is definitely one heck of a transformation.
While Tatiana hasn't shared a ton about her fitness and wellness routines (and has a private Instagram account), the new role has this actress thinking a lot about bodies and representation.
"I think that there's a cultural obsession with the certain physique that goes along with these movies sometimes," Tatiana told Entertainment Tonight. "I certainly fell prey to that idea, and I definitely don't think it's a thing that we should be pursuing 'cause it's just these weird standards that none of us can actually keep up with unless we're going to the gym 1,000 times a week."
This project is different though. And Tatiana was into it.
"What I love about She-Hulk is that she represents a different body and a different perception from the outside," she explained. "How people see her is so much a part of her story... That to me is really exciting conversation that can happen around this, which is: How do we look at someone differently depending on the body that they inhabit?"
Tatiana also mused on the growing space for female superheroes in an interview with The Guardian.
“She suddenly has this value in terms of optics. She becomes tokenized for her superhero-ness… But I do think there’s been this paradigm shift," Tatiana said. "It takes time and it’s about finding new ways to tell stories. What made me go: ‘Oh OK, this feels fresh and surprising,’ is that it feels deeply–if I can use a binary term–feminine."
She added: “There’s a girliness to it. That word is often used as a derisive term, but to me there’s a celebration of female friendship in She-Hulk that’s really fun.”
I for one, have been convinced to check this show out. Get it, Tatiana!
