To close out the year, GQ is revisiting the most fascinating ideas, trends, people, and projects of 2023. For all of our year-end coverage, click here.
1. Killers of the Flower Moon
It was an honor to walk the red carpet at Cannes and to be among such incredible actors in the film. Lily Gladstone blew me away in her role opposite Leonardo DiCaprio, and my good friend William Belleau gave one of my favorite performances of the year. Most of all, I’m proud of the Osage representation we achieved onscreen.
2. War Pony
This was a really enjoyable movie that more people need to see. It was filmed on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota utilizing tons of local native talent and crew. Directors Gina Gammell and Riley Keough did a fantastic job weaving together a modern-day story that was thoroughly entertaining.
3. Ginew
Ginew is the only Native American owned denim company in the whole country. I picked up their Heritage Coat this year. It’s easily the most comfortable and badass coat I’ve ever owned, and it’s perfect for when I ride a horse or walk on stage.
I picked up a king size “Miami Vice” satin star quilt to keep me warm this winter. The quality and color blends are awesome from this Native-owned company. It’s got traditional heritage with a uniquely 2023 vibe.
As a comedian/actor, I thoroughly enjoyed this comedy about Native teens "on the rez" in Oklahoma. Created by Sterlin Harjo and Taika Waititi, it was empowering to see so much indigenous talent both in front of and behind the camera.
