Tarte Pranked Fans With a Fake "Icy Betch" Palette — and a Real Sale to Make Up for It

Though many of us take our skincare and beauty regimens quite seriously, there has to be room for a sense of humor in it all, or what's the point? Tarte, with its palettes inspired by mermaids and super cute packaging, knows this all too well, and played a prank on fans this April Fool's Day that even Trendmood1, a major beauty industry supersleuth account on Instagram, fell for initially.

Tarte announced in the caption of an Instagram photo filled with Peeps to watch out for an exciting new reveal on its Instagram Story. Fans diligently showed up to "peep" the news and were actually quite delighted by what they saw — a brand-new palette in icy blue and silver tones, along with a few looks on a model (presumably created by the palette). Tarte called the new palette the Icy Betch palette and asked fans to vote on whether they liked it or not before a screen popped up that said, "April Fools."

Some fans didn't quite get the joke, however, and commented on both the Tarte Instagram post and the Trendmood1 Instagram post that they'd actually be interested in buying the Icy Betch palette. One fan said, "I’m actually super disappointed... Would have bought this in a heartbeat. 😔 Please someone make this palette!" while another wrote, "I want this like 10 yrs ago!! I hope you all release this palette!! I'm buying it when and if you do!!!"

However, it's not all bad news for Tarte fans, because to soothe the wounds of a prank gone wrong the brand is having a sale on palettes today — and that's no joke. If you shop the brand's website today with the code "APRIL FOOL," you can get any of the palettes that do exist for 15 percent off.
