Target Is Selling $30 Square-Toe Ballet Flats That Rival Madewell and Shoppers Say They're 'Fashionable' For the Over 60 Crowd Too

As kids, ballet flats or Mary Jane shoes were great for those uniformed school days. A cute little shoe with a thin buckle was part of the Sunday best outfit and we rocked those precious looks. Now that we’re older, buckled flats don’t always translate well and that can be especially hard when over a certain age. But for those over 50 and over 60 crowds, Target’s newest ballet flats seem to be the comfy and cute shoe you’ve been waiting for.
Target’s new Women's Elsa Ballet Flats are a simple shoe with a classic silhouette and square-shaped toe. It’s made from faux leather and has memory foam in the sole, which bumps up the comfortability rating on these. The Elsa Ballet Flats also have an adjustable strap with a thin silver buckle in both colors.

Speaking of, these ballet flats come in two colors, cream and black, and two width sizes, medium and wide. Its sizes range from 6 through 12 and 5W through 12W. Interestingly, this shoe comes from the brand’s junior apparel line, Wild Fable, but thanks to the versatility of the shoe, it’s made for all ages.
"I don't like cheap shoes usually - for ballets, etc these look like leather - and are soft and comfy!” one reviewer gushed. “The square toe makes it fashionable to wear over 60 (you don't look childish like a round toe ballet seems to). They look elegant and like a designer dupe."
And even though the product photos are hard to judge, they look so stylish when worn. Another reviewer said they were “so flattering” while another wrote that they were “on trend.”
The Greta Ballet Flat, $98 at Madewell
When it comes to what “designer” lookalike Target’s Elsa Ballet Flats can be compared to, Madewell’s Greta Ballet Flat comes to mind. If you compare Target’s black flats with the black ones from Madewell, they’re nearly identical in silhouette and style. They both have a squared-off toe and thin strap (except Target’s is adjustable with a buckle). Madewell’s Greta Ballet Flats are made with real leather throughout and have “MWL Cloudlift Lite” padding on the sole, to add comfort.
The Greta Ballet Flats come in five colors: true black, silver, chocolate raisin, kilt red and ecru, which has a textured dot pattern. And with a starting price of $98, this ballet flat shoe is over three times the price of Target’s.
So if you’re looking for some new flats for work or to dress up an outfit, Target might have the shoe (at the right price) for you.
