Target-Owned Shipt Announces Largest Delivery Expansion in Three Years

Shipt has a plan reach millions of more customers.

The Target-owned grocery delivery service announced Thursday that it will offer same-day delivery from almost 1,000 more store locations. The platform is also expanding access to over two million more households that were previously outside of Shipt’s coverage zone.

After the expansion, Shipt will offer delivery for 1,300 zip codes across the country. Households in the Seattle, Wash., Charlotte, N.C., Los Angeles, Calif. and Atlanta, Ga. markets will be the most impacted by the expansion. Shipt will also add more than 200 additional CVS locations and nearly 50 more GNC stores, as well as other store locations in key markets.

The announcement marks Shipt’s largest expansion in three years. The reason for the rollout was due to a strong response from existing users as well as advancements from the company’s operations, business development, marketing and technology teams.

“This is the first time Shipt has expanded this way,” said Shipt COO Bridget Fruit. “Over the years, Shipt has launched one city at a time or rolled out a new retail partner nationwide, but this exciting coast to coast expansion is unlike anything we’ve done before.”

Though somewhat late to the delivery wars, Target launched same-day delivery via Shipt in 2018, just six weeks after it acquired the grocery delivery company for $550 million. Target expanded the service to include all products in 2019. Since then, Shipt has continued to grow and drive sales for Target.

“This expansion recognizes the importance of same-day delivery in people’s lives,” said Fruit. “We’re growing strategically and intentionally with a commitment to provide our customers with even more places to shop, retailers with the opportunity to reach new customers and Shipt Shoppers with even more flexible earning potential than ever before.”
