In July 2020, Tarek and Heather celebrated their first anniversary as a couple. Tarek proposed on July 25.

On Sunday, July 26, Tarek took to Instagram announce their engagement.

The engagement capped off a surprise romantic weekend to Descano Beach Club in Catalina Island in Southern California. Tarek, dressed in a tuxedo, captioned the photo simply, "She said yes!" with the hashtag #FlippingHerLastName. Heather posted the same photo on her instagram feed with the caption, "The Future Mrs. Tarek El Moussa!!!!"

Earlier in the weekend, Heather posted a selfie in the hotel pool with the caption, "One of us is having the best surprise weekend of her life 💕🦄Thank you my love @therealtarekelmoussa Cheers to ONE YEAR!!"
Tarek and Heather celebrated their first anniversary as a couple earlier in July.
As a refresher, Tarek got divorced from his fellow HGTV host Christina Anstead in 2018. Despite splitting up, the two maintain an amicable co-parenting situation for their two children, Taylor and Brayden. So much so, in fact, that Heather and Christina are on a texting basis, according to Heather’s office comments to her co-workers in Netflix reality show, Selling Sunset.
