Talk About Woodville: Multiple events set for Memorial Day Weekend

If you’re one who enjoys both shopping and spending time outdoors, with a dash of chaos, Memorial Day weekend in Woodville will provide the chance to enjoy both activities…at the same time.

Village-wide garage sales to note 20th year

The Woodville All-Town Garage Sales is hitting a major milestone as this is the 20th year for the three-day event. Started as a fundraiser in 2005 by the Woodville Business Association - as it was called back then - garage sale weekend is still quite popular, with inquiries about the dates starting in early April. The number of participants varies from year to year, but last year hit a high of 50 addresses on the “official” roster.

People have occasionally questioned why our community garage sales take place on a holiday weekend when “everybody is out of town.” Judging by the number of treasure seekers that start pouring into our fair village, bright and early on a Thursday morning, it’s obvious that there are plenty of people who stick close to home for the holiday. Or perhaps they’re on the search for gently used luggage or maybe some fishing equipment for their weekend adventure.

Caution is definitely the word of the day as in-town traffic gets a little crazy with shoppers moving from sale to sale, hoping to find a bargain, or with any luck, that one rare treasure that turns out to be worth a fortune on Antiques Roadshow.

Registration forms for the All-Town Garage Sales are available at the Woodville Public Library or by contacting wbca43469@gmail.com. In order to be included on the roster, registration and the $10 fee must be submitted by May 15. Rosters will be available on May 23 at the Woodville McDonald’s, the library, and on the @Woodville All-Town Garage Sales page on Facebook. The garage sales will run May 23 to 25.

Farmers Market kicks off Memorial Day Weekend

The 11th season of the Woodville Farmers Market also kicks off on Memorial Day weekend. There will be several new vendors this year in addition to many longtime favorites, offering everything from plants and produce, to arts and crafts, to soaps, candles, teas, and more. The Woodville Food Pantry will return with its popular bake sale fundraiser and, as usual, the Woodville Public Library will bring crafts and activities for the kiddos.
