The popular CBS talk show The Talk is on pause for now according to a new announcement from the channel.

CBS said of the decision, which came only hours before the previously-set premiere date, "The Talk is pausing its season premiere scheduled for September 18. We will continue to evaluate plans for a new launch date," as reported by Deadline.

On Sept. 11, it was announced that The Talk would be returning on Sept. 18, as the controversy surrounding Drew Barrymore's talk show The Drew Barrymore Show's return to TV unfolded.

At the time, sources claimed that the show is mostly unscripted with only one writing position, and that no one would be filling that role as the WGA strike continued. The Talk initially went dark in May in response to the strikes.

The Talk is hosted by Akbar Gbajabiamila, Amanda Kloots, Natalie Morales, Jerry O’Connell and Sheryl Underwood and airs on CBS.

The news of CBS pausing The Talk comes after Barrymore reversed her decision to return with new episodes of her aforementioned talk show, as the actress revealed in a statement on Sept. 17. After extreme backlash from the public and others in the industry, she shared that the show will continue to be on pause until the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes are concluded and settled.
