Yes, Bacon City, USA is a real place. Well, for two days it will be. To celebrate a hundred years of its thick-cut, wood-smoked bacon, the bacon company Wright Brand will change the name of its hometown—Vernon, Texas—to Bacon City, USA.
Although the name change will only last two days, the company is looking for someone to be the mayor of Bacon City for that brief period (September 16-17). And not just anyone can apply for the position; the company is only looking for hardcore bacon fans.
The person chosen to be mayor of Bacon City will receive a trip for two to Vernon, Texas, and a lifetime supply of Wright Brand bacon (which will be awarded in the form of a check for $11,000).
To apply for the coveted position, bacon lovers can submit a one-minute video showcasing why they'd be perfect for the role. According to Wright Brand, "the more creative, the better," so be sure to put your best, bacon-loving foot forward. Videos will be judged on the following:
