New cast members have been added to the upcoming Taika Waititi-directed adaptation of popular dystopian sci-fi novel from Kazuo Ishiguro, Klara and the Sun.

Deadline revealed that Mia Tharia and Cillian Murphy's son, Aran Murphy, will join the previously announced stars, Jenna Ortega and Amy Adams.

Dahvi Waller pens the screenplay, which follows a robot designed to prevent loneliness who tries to save a heartbroken human family.

Ortega will play Klara, the robot, with Amy Adams starring as the mother of Josie (Mia Tharia) and Murphy joining as Josie's next-door neighbor and best friend.

Waititi and Ishiguro are no strangers to bringing books to the big screen.

In 2020, Taika Waititi won his first Oscar for Jojo Rabbit in the Best Adapted Screenplay category. The film was an adaptation of Christine Leunens' Caging Skies.

As well as being a New York Times bestselling author, Ishiguro is also a previous Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar nominee for his work on the 2022 film Living, which stars Bill Nighy.

Waititi will produce Klara and the Sun alongside Garrett Basch, Elizabeth Gabler and David Heyman.

Rosie Alison and Jeffrey Clifford will executive produce with the novel's author, Ishiguro.
