Tahoe's First Major Snow Storm Overdelivers On Expectations

Californians are celebrating as Tahoe finally saw snow--and not just a little bit: almost a whole foot piled in overnight, with 15 inches in the last 24 hours.

As the roads got tracked out and grew more slippery by the minute with a storm predicted to potentially deliver, upstairs on the slopes, Palisades Tahoe and Alpine Meadows were grooming up a storm.

The above footage shows POV from the Palisades Grooming Supervisor's perspective inside of a cat on Gold Coast, which was "nuking" as the cat worked its magic (and finally had some snow to push around)!

There is now a season total of 28 inches at Palisades Tahoe, and while Palisades saw the most snowfall at 15 inches, other resorts are seeing the same fantastic results from the storm.

Across Truckee/Tahoe, the upper mountains, especially, got pounded. We're glad to see it. Check out this compilation of powder photos by Visit Truckee, California, below.

Alpine Meadows reports 9 inches overnight. Boreal now has a 25 inch base, with 11 inches coming in overnight. Mt. Rose and Sugarbowl got a whole foot of fresh pow last night. Kirkwood got 9 inches, too. (Not too shabby!)

Police officers are checking for chains, and even as the skies clear up, some of the snow has stuck around on the roads, so drive carefully, as much as you want to mob straight to the mountain, pedal-to-the-metal style.

Northstar Resort posted a celebratory photo to Instagram with the caption, "We received 9” overnight, which made for awesome conditions this morning! Come get after it…but remember that coverage is still thin off-piste, so ski & ride carefully."

Who cares! 9 inches is 9 inches!
