Tahoe's Alpine Meadows Opens Summit Express

Alpine Meadows is the often overlooked, but hidden gem, sister mountain of Palisades Tahoe. So far this season, Alpine Meadows had a meeker offering than Palisades, so it was excusable that people were using Alpine as a place to park and take the Base To Base gondola to actually go ski.

But... no more! The Summit Express is opening today at Alpine Meadows, and man, does that lift pack some heat!

Summit Express services Wolverine Bowl, Beaver Bowl, and plenty of chutes, glades, and even a few blues to go around.

Groomed terrain is minimal. Palisades Tahoe officials warn people of "low tide conditions" and they "want to be very clear that this terrain is for advanced skiers and riders only, and that hazards exist, such as exposed ground and rocks. We’re excited to have more terrain openings at Alpine, but we urge you to use caution and pay attention to signage."

As you can see on the map, Summit Express is located to looker's right of Roundhouse, which is another very popular and feature-filled lift line.

Summit Express does, however, as the name implies, reach the summit of Alpine Meadows, making it (dare I say?) even better than Roundhouse.

Currently, including Summit Express, Alpine is spinning 7 lifts. We're just waiting on Sherwood Express, Lakeview, Kangaroo, Scott, and Alpine Bowl Chair.

The forecast shows a potential few inches of snowfall later this week. Let's keep our fingers crossed for that, and while we're waiting we can celebrate the opening of a radical lift!

See you out there!
