The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue queen is back, and she’s bringing friends. By she, we mean the one and only Christie Brinkley, and by friends, we mean her daughters. And this was a major accomplishment for up-and-coming model Sailor Brinkley Cook.
The support for Ashley Graham’s Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue cover has been overwhelmingly positive: It’s the first time a true plus-size person has been featured in the magazine — let alone on the cover — and fellow models were quick to show their support. “I don’t like it that we’re [now] talking about full-figured women, because it’s glamorizing them — and your waist should be smaller than 35 [inches],” the 68-year-old explained.
Sports Illustrated’s annual swimsuit issue may not exactly be ahead of the curve when it comes to representing body diversity, but late is better than never. On Tuesday, plus-size model Ashley Graham was announced as one of the 2016 issue’s five ‘rookies’—to be voted on by the public in an upcoming poll.
