KFC's new sandwich builds momentum for 'heart-attack on a plate' food trend

The cooks behind the "heart-attack on a plate" food trend probably think they're funny. And when you see some of their bizarre creations, they are. But with all the bad obesity press in the U.S., I'm thinking we should lay off the fryers for a while. When you're in a drought, don't water the lawn at noon. If you're the world's third fattest country, let another nation handle the food jokes.

KFC Double Down This invention drops (and cracks the pavement) on April 12. The sandwich uses chicken (fried or grilled) instead of bread. KFC describes it as, "[t]wo thick and juicy boneless white meat chicken filets..., two pieces of bacon, two melted slices of Monterey Jack and pepper jack cheese and Colonel's Sauce." The calories are not so so bad, somehow in the 500 range. But we're talking 23 - 32 grams of fat.

Doughnut Burgers

For the recipe, Paula Deen's got it. According to Snopes, the urban-legend fact-checkers, the concept may have been developed by R&B singer, Luther Vandross when he ran out of burger buns, which is why some know it as the Luther Burger. There are other theories about who and what is responsible for this invention but this is our favorite tale.
