Top designers sketch Michelle Obama inauguration dress ideas for Women's Wear Daily—we grade their efforts
As I've postulated before, whether you approve of her style or not, Michelle Obama is about to become an international fashion icon, respected sartorially on a level we haven't encountered since Jackie Kennedy. This is true and getting truer by the day. Take, for example, how willing major, major designers have been to hand over sketches for Mrs. O's inaugural gown to Women's Wear Daily. These (less face it, often-snotty) designers-like Karl Lagerfeld, Marc Jacobs, Michael Kors, Diane von Furstenberg-aren't getting paid, and as far as we know, aren't even in the running to design the dress. Michelle Obama just inspires them (which I find weirdly contagious and exciting). Check out a sampling of the design options in the slideshow above, some of them are outrageously gorgeous, some just, well, outrageous. We even gave them grades. What do you think she should wear?
